Why are feedstores so tempting?!

Went for a rabbit nesting box, came home with 3 chicks and a nesting box.

"I just had chicks hatch, I can add them to the brooder!"

I was pondering this very question this morning...I think they spray them with something that makes them super desirable.

Resisted the real strong urge to bring back 2 BO and 2 Barred Rocks. So 4 Buffs it is. Put their box in the brooder with the other 2. They have climbed in the box to look at the noise makers but are more interested in the tape on the box.

I have 1 UofA blue chick, 1 pip on penedesenca and 1 CL Pip !

I have chicks hatching today too!

So far two chocolate (dun) mottled and one solid dun d'Anver chick has hatched. Couple more pips in the DM and 1 porcelain egg. This is day 20. Tomorrow is day 20 for the LF eggs, so expect them to start hatching tomorrow. I have SLW, BLRW, Ameraucana and Golden Cuckoo Marans.

I think one of the new chicks snores. Its sleeping and it is making a little trilling sound. Also something weird about all the buffs they seem to do a lot of sleeping standing up where as the del's would just plank. The buffs do it too but especially these new ones they are so tuckered they go to sleep standing. All 4 of them were standing leaning on each other at one point. It was kind of funny. The 2 week olds seem to be just fine with the fuzz balls underfoot. No aggressive pecking just the "Hi. Who are you?" kind. One of the fuzzballs seems to think its a big kid now it started following the bigger ones around and they are all getting on just fine so far.

Question for other northern californian chicken people - does anyone know of a mill in NorCal where one can buy modest bulk grains for putting together homemade layer feed?

Today just must be a hatching day all around. I have Delawares out, Orps (look like Splashes) Marans & Ams. I think there are 15 out of 20 so far & another one working on it, another Orp....
