California - Northern

I think one of the new chicks snores. Its sleeping and it is making a little trilling sound. Also something weird about all the buffs they seem to do a lot of sleeping standing up where as the del's would just plank. The buffs do it too but especially these new ones they are so tuckered they go to sleep standing. All 4 of them were standing leaning on each other at one point. It was kind of funny. The 2 week olds seem to be just fine with the fuzz balls underfoot. No aggressive pecking just the "Hi. Who are you?" kind. One of the fuzzballs seems to think its a big kid now it started following the bigger ones around and they are all getting on just fine so far.

Double check your babies do not have snot or wet noses, noise breathing can be an issue. if not, awww! cute!
Question for other northern californian chicken people - does anyone know of a mill in NorCal where one can buy modest bulk grains for putting together homemade layer feed?
No idea, but i'm watching for a responce!

Remember all those comments a while back about rubber chickens? I ran across this picture from last Thanksgiving. She enjoyed her chicken dinner

NOMS!
This is lockdown day for the Easter Hatch A Long. Still, lots of hatching going on there too already

I am starting to wonder if humidity that is too low during incubation might cause the membrane or shell to be too tough for some breeds. It might be better to use humidity closer t the traditional 55% sometimes for the first 18 days.

On the new babies!
The magic dicky runs at 55%. I will see if it kills all my marans or not....

Hi everyone! It is so darn easy to get behind on this thread when I am not obsessive about reading and checking.... hmmmm does that mean all of you are obsessively checking and posting?????

Maybe I am just a slow reader and we will leave it at that!

So I may have to be moving to Texas...... UGH! I just moved to Penryn about 7 months ago. Anyway my POINT is that I think I am going to see if I can find homes for the hens now so I can focus on other things.

I will post pictures in a few days but if anyone is interested let me know. They are just now turning 1 and are reliable layers. I have pink, brown, dark brown with spots, white and blue egg layers. 2 black/ 1 blue Orp, 1 Splash DLBB, 2 Swedish flower Leghorns, 2 Polish, 2 Wheaten Ameraucanas, 2 Welsummers.

I would love some obsessive person to take them all because I hate splitting them up, but I realize 12 might be too many for some.

I ALSO have a well established colony of Meal Worms. Thousands of them. I started it last year at this time and they are in full force. It is in a three drawer plastic bin on wheels. I did the three drawer system because I had it handy and because I hoped that if one drawer got mold or mites, I might be able to salvage the other two drawers and not have to start over. I have some left over Wheat Germ in a plastic container I would happily send with you. (not the container, the wheat germ.)

PM me if anyone is interested in any of the birds or the worms.

I hate this process........ I just don't think moving worms across country is a sound idea. If they should accidentally spill that would be all bad.

MAGIC DICKY DOING MAGIC!!! GO DICKY GO!

Ok, I can only say this here ( see if you can figure out what word is changed for BYC sensitivity) I hope my dicky is not full of.. boys!
That is very funny! I did not find the random Harry Potter posts funny on the HAL, but I laughed hard at this!

Oh goodness... this is so tempting. I'm so sorry you'll be moving, and giving up your hens. I have been looking for the breeds you have.. AND the mealworm colony.

Hugs! I can help if you get stuck but I bet you find good homes. They are prime girls!
