My Easter hatch is still on!

Delawares are kicking butt again. They are amazing. I set 21 and moved 17 to the hatcher on day 19. 14 have hatched already. of the 3 left, one has a pip so it should hatch soon. I candled one of the two without pips and a chick is moving in it.

Dorkings had 12 moved to the hatcher on day 19 with 7 out and two more pips. If 9 make it, it will be the biggest number to hatch so far!
Great to hear Ron.

Good news! This batch of SG dorkings have almost 100% fertility! 25 SG Dorking eggs were and two were pulled on day 7--one blood ring so it was fertile and one clear so only one was not fertile!

This might be a very good hatch!

@capayvalleychick

These eggs are from last years pullets?
Do you & Kim know what the fertility problem is? I have had lower than expected fertility too & hesitate to sell hatching eggs because of it. I don't know what else they could need. I have heard people talk about Rooster Booster but haven't seen it or know what's in it.

All but o35 are pullets. Fingers crossed that they hatch!
I haven't been online lately. Main phone line, computer and internet aren't working. I can text and sometimes email on this phone. Wishing I had glasses because this phone makes everything so small!
Happy Easter everyone!

I hope they hatch for you!

Thanks! They are beautiful eggs! Hoping for some a couple of girls to replace the eggs I am not getting from Della and the two Red Stars from my original flock who don't lay so well any more

The pullet eggs I set from here culls were sure fertile. The only non hatcher was a CA grey.

I had a chick die in the shell. I pulled it out a few times yesterday to check its progress. Was that a mistake? It was starting to zip and peeping loudly at around 6:45 last night and dead this morning.

Anyone local selling Barnevelders? Chicks, older pullets or even hatching eggs? Im near Auburn area...

Kelly is in Colfax @Happy Chooks
 she raises them

Kelly is much closer to you:) if she doesn't have any available, I will have some extras if you don't mind a drive. I live south of Redding in Cottonwood. I have hatching eggs ( can mail them) and lots of young stock of various ages. 46 eggs are due to hatch April 30th.

I used to have white French Marans that I had gotten eggs from SubstainableYieldPoultry in Arnold. She got her stock from an old neighbor who had brought them down with them when they moved from Canada. I think she said they were originally sports from the Marans, but I can't remember for sure & she has kind of dropped off the boards. I should give her a call.

Yeah Kathy......I used to have peacocks.... a couple of times in fact in the .past 35 years. A big bad fire that took the whole 150 ' by 40' shop took all my first ones, but the peahen hatched a clutch 3 or 4 if I remember right all girls....LOL
Such nice looking birds. I had Blue Wheaten AMs at one time & they laid my very best "blue" egg.
I would have sworn the egg was from my Lav AM's, so i'm just figuring it was an EE egg. Wouldn't that be neat it the marans threw a white gene? I don't even know the odds, but I think it's gonna be cute either way.
And the Blue wheaten AM gave you the best blue egg? that's awesome! I love the blue birds, but seeing all @chickee 's beautiful birds is making me want to add some to my flock. I'm using my Lav Am for OE with my blue copper marans. Does anyone know what color chicks I'd get if I crossed a wheaten or blue wheaten with a blue copper marans? I hear chickee's AM's are really sweet, while my lav's are a pain in the rear!

Your chicks are adorable! Aww..the white one with black dots is a special baby..

Lual
She (i insist all babies are a "she") is a fat, pudgy little thing! So darn cute!!

I have 2 hatched and 3 pipped from my Meat bird eggs!

I started with 12 but one was clear, One is yellow and one marked similar to a BCM. They are Cornish/Rock/Wyandotte mix.

(Edited to correct the # of eggs)
Nice!! Have you done this cross before? Wondering how they fill out compared to the hatchery cornish X. please keep us updated :) Did you get them locally?

@alibra - love your jubilees!! can't find your original post, but wanted to send congrats!! I'm getting some chicks from papa brooder next week!

How do you take something away from a chicken that they arent supposed to have. One found a piece of plastic on the ground and was running around with it like it was the most coveted treat.

The don't exactly respond to "Drop it"
