Here are Petunia and two of her 8 out in the run at about . The hatch is evenly split 4 gold 4 silver. I have no idea why, other than they may be SL. Daddy is a white Silkie mamas are both MF D'Uccle
And Norma...her batch is about 12 hours younger so she hasn't ventured out with them yet
Two red star..boy with the head spot and the little blue/red girl in front and the little red one in the back is a NH/dorking cross and I think a girl
The little yellow one sticking out in front is a dorking X pretty sure it is a boy
Beauty shot
My new babies!! 7 heatched so far...4 more eggs in the 'bator but I think only 2 will hatch. Any guesses on what color the yellow with the blue spots will be?
I agree on the sacrifice. So many divorcing parents can't even get along, so this is a rare and pleasant exception! Hope you do well in whatever contest you are participating in! Is is chicken related? Unfortunately, it isn't chicken related...I sing in a Sweet Adelines chorus. It is four part harmony in the barbershop style. Our Regional contest is next weekend.

Chixx pics as promised. Bielefelder X Delaware and Silver Sussex. On their way to the brooder.
The pure yellow ones are Bielefelder X Delaware roo's.
The dirty white chicks are Bielefelder X Silver Sussex roo's.
The red chicks are pullets not sure which is which yet. Pretty sure the ones with stripes are Bielefelder X Delaware and the pure red one is Bielefelder X Silver Sussex.
The black chick is from the Silver Sussex.
I was told I should not get sex links from a Silver Sussex. I Believe we do because Greenfire Farms supposedly Bred this Silver Sussex line with Light Sussex. We crossed the Silver Sussex with our Cream Legbar already and had similar results, very interesting.

Think of it as an adventure. I'm glad you're not leaving the thread! There's a lot of good and bad in Texas, but overall, it's a decent place. And the cost of living is a lot lower there. And watch out for the mosquitos. They are sometimes mistaken for helicopters.
I worked in Houston for 4 months. Its a huge city. It reminded me a lot of San Jose. I will tell you though the people were very friendly.
One of my co-workers needed a lift home out to the suburbs one day but traffic at rush hour is terrible and their car pool lanes (HOV lanes) need 3 people. He told me just drop by a bus stop and pick someone up. We did. Would have never done that in a million years here. Not saying you couldnt get in trouble doing something like that on occasion but the general feel I got from the place was people were friendly helpful and just all around decent folks. Houston however in summer is apparently humid and hot.
Yeah Hot is what I hear everywhere. You know they do the "casual carpool" in San Francisco too. They actually have City signs put up that indicate what line to stand in to get a ride to the various drop off points. I used to pick up people from the Vallejo Bus stop and drop them off in S, and then on the way home I would grab two more people and drop them off in Vallejo. It unnerved me a couple of times, but for the most part the people that use it are other business people.
We lived in Houston for 3 years and our firstborn was born there. I adjusted but my CA born & raised DH never did. We lived in the southwest, the northwest, and finally ended up north close to Spring. We preferred the north where there were lots of trees! It is very hot and humid in the summer so I just went from air conditioned place to air conditioned place!
Yeah I did the same thing when visiting my parents in Palm Springs. Although it is 115 so hot is hot and you run from AC to AC and hope the power doesn't go out.
And we would miss you! At least you will have cheap gas. Thata all I got lol.
I think she did it herself. She might of decided to mate on the concrete pillars holding up the deck that are sharp or got stuck on one and then her flying or runn kept tearing the skin.
You know cheap gas isn't that great of an incentive.... lol Just sayin'.
I wish I had a friend that would stitch up my birds for me. That is great you have him. That is the strangest injury. I guess it is easy to hurt yourself when you have no ARMS.
It is a rare mama who will uproot her life and follow her ex (eps to TX for the love of all that is Holy) because she knows it is best for their daughter. Bless you Bless you Bless you....sorry for gushing but I am really impressed with your priorities and your selflessness.
Speaking of mamas Petunia appears to have hatched 8 of 8 and Norma has at least 2 of her 8 out. Today is day 21 so
Awww schucks! thanks tommy. My ex and I are friends so we get along, but the move has stressed things a little. If I can't find a better job than what I have here, I am going to be hard pressed to make the decision to move.
I just want what is best for the DD. She is my sunshine!
I am bummed about getting rid of my girls though. On the bright side I get to hatch out a bunch more new babies later and that is ALWAYS fun, as you can attest to.
Ali it is wonderful that you are going to sacrifice for your Daughter! Good for you. You might like Texas--You never know. When you are ready I can get you hatching eggs for hear hardy Blue, OE and Dark brown egg layers.
I am highly doubtful that I will like Texas. BUT, it isn't for me. BAH! right!?!?! I just have to keep telling myself that.
Anyway you are on my list of go to guys for eggs when I get settled. It will be a long while though. I have to find a place etc etc. At least I know you know how to pack the eggs for shipping.
Norma is 7 for 8 and the 8th is pipped and chirping! I thought I gave her mostly CA Grey eggs but I obviously gave her more Dorking egg than I thought. She has hatched 3. They are beautiful little sex links red and yellow chipmunks. I think the red are the little girls. Got 4 black sex link babies too. two girls who are very gorgeous mottled black and red and the boys are black with a head spot. Not sure about the little guy in the shell though.
Sorry for the totally self-involved post. I am going to go look at what you all have going on now.
All these hatching stats are like listening to a sporting event or a horse race..... Norma is in the home stretch and Number 8 is bringing up the rear pipping and Chirping. Read em you will see.
We are all self involved here and that is what is so great about this thread. Others will share in our self involved-ness and actually share back.
I would just like to say that I think that is awesome! It is so rare that you see parents of divorce sacrifice for their children. You are a wonderful mom! And you are right they are still a little good old boy , even in Houston. But cost of living is so much better. I love Houston, but my favorite area is the Hill Country! Beautiful and quaint! I wish you the best of luck! Have fun exploring a new State and I'm glad you'll be keeping up with the thread!
As a side note...I'll be heading to Reno next Friday leaving Pleasanton at 0 dark thirty. I'm going for a contest, so I have to arrive by 9:00am. May not help anyone in this area trying to get things North, but if someone needs anything brought back down here on Sunday let me know.I'll try to get my schedule firmed up.
Thank you for that. I HATE the good ole boys club and I apologize to any of you that might belong to it. I was raised in the 80's. when women had big hair, big shoulder pads, and walked to work in tennis shoes and changed to their heels at the office!
Hill Country is where????
We have our own egg train on this thread. People offering to ferry eggs/chickens back and forth! That is so NICE!
How do you take something away from a chicken that they arent supposed to have. One found a piece of plastic on the ground and was running around with it like it was the most coveted treat.

The Texas Hill Country is slightly northwest of San Antonio and Austin. Fredericksburg was always my favorite! A little far from the Houston area....but nice to visit! And I remember the big hair days! Sometimes, I actually miss shoulder pads! We just saw the movie Working Girl on cable the other day! Such big hair! I shutter to think of all the hairstyles we used!
