Chixx pics as promised. Bielefelder X Delaware and Silver Sussex. On their way to the brooder.

The pure yellow ones are Bielefelder X Delaware roo's.

The dirty white chicks are Bielefelder X Silver Sussex roo's.

The red chicks are pullets not sure which is which yet. Pretty sure the ones with stripes are Bielefelder X Delaware and the pure red one is Bielefelder X Silver Sussex.

The black chick is from the Silver Sussex.
I was told I should not get sex links from a Silver Sussex. I Believe we do because Greenfire Farms supposedly Bred this Silver Sussex line with Light Sussex. We crossed the Silver Sussex with our Cream Legbar already and had similar results, very interesting.

Cute Cute Cute!!! Keep us posted on how these babies grow out. Bielfelders are pretty sensetive to the heat right?

These chicks are actually an order for someone. We will be hatching others (purebreds) to grow out for our own stock. We have Cream Legbar eggs due to hatch on the 27th!!!!

I don't know about the Bielefelders being sensitive to heat, they are really big so I could see it. We have a pretty mild climate over here so I don't think it will be any problem for us.

Man Delware's are smart. I needed to borrow their water container so I had to make a makeshift nipple water container for them over night. (Took and old 1/2 gallon plastic mustard jar and put 2 nipples in the bottom of it) All I had to do was tap the nipples twice and they figured it out first thing in the morning.

I have easter pics to post tonight.

This week I'm going to be very busy putting the new coop together. I really hope I can get it done in the after work hours.

Hello to you too neighbor,
We will be breeding the Silver Sussex this summer. We have one Silver Sussex hen, two pullets and five cockerels. The oldest pullet and cockerels are about four months old so it should not be too long until we can start breeding. We are going to separate them into their own pen soon. I will post up here when they start breeding and I have verified fertility.
We are very interested in Delawares also. Our Bielefelder roo over our Delaware hen makes a beautiful friendly red sex link. We also want to try this cross with our Cream Legbars. You say breeder quality Dels does that mean they are not hatchery stock?

Sounds like you have a great plan in place. I look forward to seeing how your Silver Sussex and the rest do. Yes, my Dels come from @capayvalleychick . They are culls from her breeding program she has been raising Dels for years and her original birds I believe came from Land of Tobe (Braden) and Sand Hill. She started breeding to SOP a couple of years ago and I have a rooster and a hen from her. She got some really amazing chicks last spring from another source so she got rid most of her own original line. Lucky me.

I also have a couple of hatchery girls but one rarely lays...I think she is an internal layer...they other consistently gives me a medium sized pink egg. My breeder girl, Harriet, lays a to XL egg. I set a clutch of Harriet's eggs on Saturday. Most should be Dels because she lives with Ozzie but there will probably be a few red Sex links in there too since I also have a NH roo who sometimes ranges with her.

This is Harriet after our first rain

Ozzie is much more filled out now but this gives you an idea of his coloring.

Great looking birds.

I was seeing some posts about spotted chicks being potentially Splashes. This is one of the "Meat bird" chicks that hatched yesterday. Does she look look like she could be a splash?

What is the parentage?

Splash is part of Blue Genetics. I tried to explain that on the HAL thread.

This is what you do to get splash. If the Parents are not this, they will not be splash.

I bet they will be tasty though!
