Any tips for helping chickens survive heat.
Some people use misters. I water down the ground under the bushes in the morning and that's where they hang out in the heat of the day. I also have a couple of big bird baths that sit on the ground. My girls like to stand in them and cool off their feet. They do have to be cleaned out every day but it's a quick job.

At this point wet ground would end up with muddy chickens (White birds and mud not a good mix) Though I may end up with them anyway. I may set up a mister and put a couple of frozen water bottles in the coop and in their water. Definitely going to get a shade sail set up.

Okay, I thought that I had the cocci under control in my outside brooder. I have 6 1/2 and 7 1/2 week old chicks in it. I lost one chick 10 days ago because I realized there was a problem too late. They had already had a round of amprolium so I started them on sulfadimethoxine. 5 days at the higher dose and then 3 days of amprolium. They have been back on water with vitamins for 2 days and this morning I found a dead cockerel in the pen. Monet and I checked zip tie bands on everyone last night and all looked fine. All live ones look fine this morning. I see a few poos with some red in them but they look like intestinal lining shedding. The bloody ones were all red. Any recommendations on what to do now?

I have a double decker brooder and the bottom one has hardware cloth on part of the floor so the droppings fall through and my older birds do get under there and dig around. I also have another group of birds that are around 10 weeks that I have been letting out of their pen onto my patio. (Big mess, big mistake.) I will be rearranging pens this weekend and the boys are going to the farm. Both brooders and the patio birds have had a round of the S drug since they are all young and in close contact. The big girls used to have access to the ground area that the bottom level brooder has access to. I am assuming that they have built up immunity to the cocci since I haven't had any problems with them. Do you think that I should do some preventative with them?

What do the egg trays look like? Are they on a frame or attached to the side? If its on a mobile frame mifht ve able to retrofit
Are you asking about the turner or the hatcher? The hatcher has trays that slide in. Could the turner be retrofit? I was hesitant to let DH start cutting one apart but I recently picked up one at Nasco for around $20. I might let him play with it!

Have you seen the shade sails at Costco? I have been wanting a couple of them to go over my patio. I'm allergic to the sun so I have to be very careful to minimize my exposure.

yes I get bigger size since it is cheaper pet drop. It is not different strength just amounts

I don't count a hen broody unless she sits fir 3-4 days. If she only gets up once a day tucks eggs under her and has stopped laying she is likely to be committed.

I don't have gambles but do a quick check to see if you need permits for them. I think you do. California is not keen on people keeping new world quail.

I can only find Frontline PLUS( which is not the one for chickens) drops . The regular I could only see in the spray bottle.
And if you buy frontline it is the same concentrate , just different doses for different sized dogs
EXCEPT the cats version which has 11% (S)-methoprene , whereas the dog version is something like 8%.
You can find dosages online and use a TINY syringe to measure (no needles please). I've only been able to do this with dogs and cats so far, as i can't find the regular form

Yes, you should likely treat them at half dose for three days once a month with corid.

Sorry you lost one!

Send it in for Necropsy--It might have choked on something.

Update on frontline: it looks like the difference between the plus and regular is the frontline plus has the (s) methoprene where the regular does not. At least that on the spray version it's not in the ingredients list. I can't find the regular in any form except the spray on
