It sounds like its not an issue however. If the veins are spidering all the way around the egg You are turning enough. Because I know you don't have leg issues
Actually, now that you mention it, I occasionally had leg and toe issues when I incubated the whole time in the Genesis with the turner going. Now that I'm not turning them as much as the automatic turner does, I have not had a single toe or leg issue. Hmmm...what does that mean?

The cabinet incubator has better temperature control.

Turning has become a hot topic for some!

I was going to say that they are fine.

Shhh, do not tell anyone but I did not turn the Dorking and Del eggs for the first two days for the last hatch and it was one of the best yet! I was treating them like shipped eggs because they travel 40 miles to get to my place.

I treat anything that has been jounced like a shipped egg. I hand turn if I don't see round veining. As soon as my serema start to lay consistantly I will be doing a few experiments on veining and hand turning. In the SHHH factor, I think egg turning is so important for hens because eggs are on the side. My muscovy hen is at a big angle and she is not a great turner and shes got wonky cells and some sideways veining. All I have learned about wonky veining has been from frigging scovie eggs that have been on the side. I think putting eggs upright does similar things. It encourages the entire egg to get veining by not favoring one side over the other.
Someone on the FB Poultry group is looking for a home for this guy. He is free and she is in the Rough & Ready area. He is a frizzled Silkie

I am betting he is fro Sherry Minkners eggs too, he is SOO nice. If anyone wants to pass a frizzle gene into the flock he would do it!

I found this ad on CL this morning:
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/scz/grd/4447657197.html
supposed to be santa cruze area.

Dont get this one!!

Also I looked at the humidair ad, I can tell you how to upgrade it, but its about 150. if it is working OK however you can do it incrimentally.

The side thing makes sense. The hatch problem analyzer says: Dead embryos; 3 to 6 days of incubation; yolk sac circulatory system present, embryo on left side, no egg tooth-- b. Lack of Ventilation, or sealed shells, carbon dioxide >1%. c. Improper turning -<1/h or >6/h; improper turning angle. It lists sticky chicks and mal positioned chick on turning. Spradle legs and crooked toes it says are from.

a. high or low incubator temperature.
b. inadequate nutrition
c. Smooth bottom hatching trays

haha, I was going to say this is just because Styrofoams are never gonna be great( but less politely, but i have sworn enough for the day!) . I also thing cabinets have better airflow and o2 and that is part of why they get better rates.

I have not seen that chart Ron! I am gonna email it to somebody who is sad about their Marans eggs.

It is a great chart an helps a bunch with hatch problems.

I hope it helps the Marans somebody.

The person listing him said he was from a feed store.  She also meantioned that the feed store will rehome roos for people, so I am thinking he was brought in by someone because he was a roo.  He may not have been originally form a hatchery
oh yeah not a feedstore silkie. Im the one who told him it was a frizzled silkie! Sherry is the top frizzle breeder in the country the boy is fablous!

Does he have a tail hiding there somewhere? He is beautiful where-ever he came from.

The second mottled Ameraucana that hatched is my first chick to have spraddled legs. I have the electrical tape splint on and it is doing better at getting around now. How long does it usually need to stay on?

It varies. Give her a week and see where she is then give her another week. Re evaluate daily for awhile and if you see it starting to degrade put her back in them. Give Poly Vi Sol w/o iron too. The B vits are important.
