The new girls (Cookies-and-Creme (Cookie for short) and not-named-yet-because-I-said-DH-could-name-her-to-forstall-the-daughters-naming-her-Puppy) are out of the quarantine pen and in a getting-to-know-you pen in the coop. I deliberately designed the quarantine pen to break down, so the new pen is half of the quarantine pen

I moved them Wednesday, so I'll probably let the new girls into the yard for a bit in a couple more days, and then alternate free ranging for a bit. How long should I keep the girls separated?

Naturally, all the cute photo ops happen when my phone has decided that the battery's low...

Looking at the pen, it struck me that I could use the extension cord I used for extra lighting after Christmas to power either a light or a heating pad... I know I'd have to brood feedstore chicks somewhere separate from the coop, and I wouldn't if I hatched eggs, but what about day-olds? (You realize that my even thinking this way is all you guys's fault, right?

id keep them separate three weeks at least

Off for a fun day doing grower's market, 100% chance of rain and gusting winds. DH said we didn't need to go, I asked him where am I going to store 2 1/2 weeks worth of eggs? I've got 3 ice chests in the van already.

Have a great day everyone!

Have a great time in the wind and rain!

Today is the day I finally get the new coop put into place (the thing is HEAVY even with out all the walls on) I have to get it moved into place first leveled out and then I need to finish the walls floor roof etc. Im behind schedule a little. I need to get everything completed by Wed. or I may have to box brooder some Delawares the feed store is getting.

I have 5 weeks till the fostered buffs can go.

If I get 2 more dels and 2 New Hampshires.on Wed My brooder will be full again and in 3-4 weeks Ill have CLB so the fosters might have to go outside for 2 weeks. (Weather should be good enough by then they will be 6-7 weeks and the 9-10 week buffs should be with the dels by then.

Could build a 2nd divider for the brooder too but will really cramp all the chicks.

God help me I'm in love. One EE chick looks like a chocolate chip, one looks like carmel, & the other is wearing eyeliner.

Don't blame you! One of my EE Chicks was nick named Bon Bon because she looked like one. She is still the sweetest. I gave her to my aunt and she runs up and squats whenever she sees me or her she begs to be petted.

Tommy it might work. Just be prepared to pull one or the other if you have issues.
Thanks! She is totally zoned out right now...in hen zen... and I hear peeping. I will see how many she has hatches of the 7. If there are fewer than 5 I may try "supplementing" with a couple of silkie babies.

Didn't even realize that I was timing this hatch with Mother's Day...I like that though.
