I bet! I've never seen live elk before.
I live in a little town called Day in Modoc county, and when asked where i am from I always say I live in far northeastern California.
We have always considered the San Fran bay area the dividing line.
Anyway interesting topic
Welcome to the group!!!
Does #1 even have the right comb type for a Wyandotte? Looks like a single comb to me.
Thanks guys!
No she doesn't have the right comb type, but that doesn't matter because if I do keep her she will be a pet, not for breeding or showing.![]()

Possible, but I was looking into the genetics of the rose/straight combs and didn't see any mention of different feathering rates. Does anyone have input on this? I am curious as to if you're right & it can be linked.
That would be a good question to ask on the Wyandotte thread. Single combs do pop up once in awhile. I have had about two in 50 chicks. I never saw a difference in how they feathered in.Possible, but I was looking into the genetics of the rose/straight combs and didn't see any mention of different feathering rates. Beautiful!
Beautiful!
Well, the little chick I was not hopeful for was looking awful last night. I kept getting up to dip his beak in electrolyte/vitamin water. The last time I did was about three and he was not able to stay upright and wasn't cheeping at all. When I got up again at five to check the little 'hospital box' he was gone- literally!!! He had let himself out of the box and gone for a stroll. He's eating like a little piggy and chasing his friend around. I'm astounded. I had just about written him off. So glad he's a little fighter.
If anyone near Chico is looking for a free cockerel, there was a nice looking Dominique at Northern Star Mills this afternoon. They offered him to me for free, but I intend to keep a Fav cock AND a Maran cock AND maybe a third from the order I have coming, so no room for him here. They had Delaware chicks and I almost broke down and bought some, but I want to wait until next year and buy some non-hatchery ones.

I think a lot of the feathering rate info is just observational. I don't know if there is any scientific info about it. It would be nice if there was a study on it...either for different breeds or for sex within breeds.
