Speaking of killing things... I'm a vegan and hate that my parents buy the poor abused store birds, and wish we could raise our own chickens for meat - for them to eat, not me. They're not opposed to it, and actually would like to try it, but nobody here has the guts to kill the birds.

I said earlier in the thread but i did a necropsy myself on them and found no worms just small pieces of metal so i dont think they have worms
Please don't take this the wrong way, 'cause I mean no disrespect, but unless you opened all of the esophagus, crop, small intestine, large intestine and cecal pouches and looked *very* closely, it' possible that you missed them.

Here are some cecal worms:

You've had two die and a bunch that are thin, so ask yourself, what's the most logical explanation? To me it's parasites, not heavy metal poisoning, but hey, if you have a bunch of lead and other metals around, I *guess* it's possible. UC Davis necropsy could confirm, either way.

Disclaimer: I am a complete novice when it come to incubation and hatching, but thought some of you might fin this interesting, Pictured below is an egg I found somewhere that's been struggling for days to pip externally, so today I made a hole, waited 12 hours, moistened the membrane and I think this one is malpositioned with it's foot over it's head. Beak is under right wing, but that looks like a toe to me, lol. -Kathy
I had two like that today :/ The first was awful dry even at 65%, so I helped zip a little and had to race to FedEx before the last pickup. My parked (empty) car got hit hard by a kid who got hit by a cement truck (amazingly he's ok). Two hours later when I finally got hone, that chick had hatched & left blood all over the place, appears ok but tired, but has yolk left to absorb. I misted her and put her in a teacup so she won't get stepped on so much, then found the second one & misted her, a lot. Ron, I recall you mentioning treatment for remaining yolk, but I haven't found it. Did I do right? These are F1 OEs from DMRippy.

That's good to know! No matter how much we sharpen our kitchen knives, they just are never sharp enough for processing. George ends up using one of my serrated tomato knives because they are newer and very sharp. It is usually his job to cut off the feet so he needs a sharp knife.

Some people on the You Tube videos on processing rabbits used sharp garden hand pruners to cut off the feet. They may work but I just bent the hock at the joint & used my Havolon around it for my chickens

I understand what u mean kathy. I suppose that does make sense i figured heavy metal because my dad welds and we had to weld one of the feeders. i coulve missed the worms though. Ive never had these issues so thats why im relying on u guys tye mor experienced people. once i have enough money ill have to buy some safeguard. how much is it and where could i get it?

How much should a 10-11 week del weigh 3 of my birds are very similar in weight but 1 (not pete) is about a half pound heavier. You can really tell when you pick her up that she is bigger than the others could she be older she always seemed to feather first.

A small bottle is about $20 at TSC, but if that's too much I could mail you enough Safeguard to get you started. I bought a liter, so sending you a small amount is fine.
