California - Northern

Ahahah I just have to share this picture I just took. Nothing like taking selfies with a chicken, eh?
Carolina is a big fan of selfies. She always poses when I break out the camera.

I think my Speckled Sussex "Sweet T" is broody. I am going to give her a couple of days to be sure then she will get Amelia eggs. I want to see if they are sex links... girls red and boys red barred like a red roo and a crele hen are supposed to make. Also she will get Dorking and CA Grey eggs because those babies are so cool!

I am so happy to have now 5 proven broodies...not counting T yet. I know it can be a pain for some and there is no doubt DRAMA involved but it makes me smile. I like those girls to keep earning their way in one way or another and this is an especially sweet way.

I need a broody to raise up the baby chicks I have in my brooder. But none of mine have ever gone broody. And just watch, it's going to happen in the middle of summer when I don't want to raise up baby chicks.

Sorry to spam, but does anyone here sell Dark Brahmas? I have one spot left in my flock for a new hen, and I'm thinking I want to go with a Dark Brahma...

Just found a Muscovy nest in the sun. All eggs internally pipped and their shell temps read 105 to 106.5. Sigh...

Awww....what a silly muscovy! I wonder why in the heck she nested there....

Nice picture! She definitely knows where that camera is...

Quote: I think my blue wyandotte is going broody again. She just started laying again after raising a clutch that is now 10 weeks old. It would be mean to give her 15 meat chicks, wouldn't it????

I asked a while back does anyone know of a good weight chart by week that might have Delawares on it. One of my Dels is quite a bit bigger than the rest. Dont know if she is just older or being the food bully and Im not seeing it or what but she is at least a half pound heavier than the others. (Weighing them was a challenge when all I have is a food scale)
