Hey Ron, since you asked..............

Bee inspection time this morning before it gets hot. I was very surprised at how quickly they are fillling up the super.

It's difficult to hold a heavy frame of honey with bees on it in one hand and take pictures through a veil with the other hand. But here's what I got:

One of the outer frames. Partially capped honey, and uncapped honey.




This frame is filling up nicely.


Looks like I'll need to start honey extraction in a few weeks.

I offered to pay Papa Brooder to hatch eggs for me and he said yes, we'll see if we can work it out. If not, I can easily get them to Chico and I would love for you to hatch them for me. I'll let you know what happens.

Air cell is in the big end...not the skinny end. Glad Papa is willing to help out. It would be better for the eggs to get them to him since you could probably get them there sooner and with less bouncing around. I am happy to do it if need be though.

Very nice! Are those 1/2 frames? I remember the ones our bees had being wider

The 3 weeks thing is how long then hen can carry the sperm from the rooster and continue to lay fertile eggs. Once the egg is laid, they need to be set within about 10 day

Stupid me, you think I'd know that the air cell is on the big end. I just don't use eggs very often.
I have two Andalusians that lay white eggs, and I was going to start encouraging the Tolbunt hen to lay in the nest box...but I figure it's best she continues to lay on the ground while I'm collecting her eggs, since that's the only way I can tell them apart from the Andalusian's eggs!

She lists on the Sacramento area CL. I just looked through the current ads and don't see one from her. A week ago she had several ads. If I see one, I'll PM it to you (wouldn't want to link someone's personal info on an open forum).

Question - I am debating just biting the bullet and buying a cheap bator, but it needs to be one that I can be sure will work well. Any recommendations?
