Why is it challenging?

It can be challenging because, with only one incubator, you will eggs hatching and chicks pumping around into the newer eggs. I have set up a barrier 1/2 way across mine to move hatched chicks away from ones getting ready to hatch, but it can affect the air circulation in the incubator.

Gotcha. I think that can be manageable especially if it means I could possibly hatch out more Tolbunt Polish. I can probably tape up a very small piece of chicken wire to the inside of the bator to keep the chicks away from the newer eggs.

Yes...you want to increase you chances with the Tolbunts as much as you can!

Agreed. I have nothing to lose by setting eggs up to the 3 week mark.

If I'm remembering correctly, you have to raise up the humidity at lockdown or near the end of the hatch, would this affect the eggs that had been set 2 weeks after the ones that are hatching?

Hey guys, I have a question...when incubating eggs, do they all have to be set at once? Or could I put some in, then put some more in a week later?

with one incubator I would just set them once. Once they start to hatch the bacteria can get pretty bad in there

@capayvalleychick I think that of Harriet's 6 chicks at least 4 are Ozzies and 2 are my NH boys so those are Sex Links. There may be some barring on the 5th yellow baby but it may be my wishful imagination. Anyway they are all totally darling and I am looking forward to watching them grow. I hope there are at least tow Del girls in there.

@Audio51 We give our flock fatty beef like prime rib trimmings from time to time. i think that it is fine as long as the fat isn't something you load them up on routinely

I wished for broodies and am now on my fourth first timer for the year. It is really funny how they change. This girl, Theresa, earned the nickname Sweet T because she has been my girl since she was a tiny chick. She is now a feathered and angry dinosaur. She got 4 Amelia eggs and 4 sex link eggs NH daddy and Dorking or CA Grey mommies. I gave her 10 but I came out later and two had been pushed out so I left her with 8.

The NH/Amelia mix should make interesting babies. Red girls and red barred boys.

This would be the first time they have gotten it and would definitley not become a regular thing. I usually don't even have prime rib very often and this is the first one I have had that had so much fat!

I would wait till I had the incubator in hand and had it up and going if your going to pay money for egg's make sure the incubator is in A+ condition

I would test it for at least week so make sure you can adjust temp & humidity for incubation AND hatching.

lol me neither. I got it up to temp waited a few hours and that was good enough for me
