Does anyone in or near Redding or Sacramento, or anywhere in between, have Swedish Flower Hen hatching eggs?? My friends rooster just died and I'd love to hatch out some chicks and give him a cockerel.
Actually, he's not just a friend he's a dog trainer that helps me with my foster dogs for no charge, so I'd love to do something nice for him & give him a SFH cockerel.

With my Genesis, I used to be obsessive about the percentage of humidity and fiddled around trying to get it perfect by covering part of the tray with foil, etc. It sure takes some of the joy out of incubating when you are worried all the time about having perfect conditions. I finally decided to just fill channel/track 1 on day 1 and add water when the humidity starts to drop then fill channel 2 & top off channel 1 on day 18 when the turner is removed & the eggs set for hatch.
Yep, that's what I'm going to do. Stressing about it isn't going to help them hatch. I just needed to express my opinion.

Do you have a good idea on the genders of your AC now? Or did I miss the announcement?

I don't know yet. The combs are identical. Their pattern of feathering in was identical. I've been told that they don't really identify themselves until they are 6-9 weeks of age, the comb is quite late coming in on the cockerels. My two kids (Amos and Andi, can you tell I'm old, LOL) are only 2.5 weeks old.

The only difference between them is their bodies. The stance and attitude is the same, but one is a lot more solid, the other more weedy in type. If they are the same sex and I had the luxury of choosing between them, I'd cull the smaller one based on body type.

But I think I'll keep them both

University of Arkansas Blue Egg Layers, or Arkansas Blues. They were a Graduate project from the University of Arkansas. They are Blue Genetics so the chicks can be blue, splash and Black. A blue rooster is in with two blue hens, two splash hens and two Crele Penedesencas. The chicks are so cute!

They lay very blue eggs because they are Aracauna crossed with Leghorns.

First one to hatch looks exactly like the 2 on the left. A nice blue.
2nd one still pipping at last check. No other pips yet.

Quote: The water reserve system for the GQF cabinet hatchers & incubators is only $43.50 so not too expensive. Is there a reason why you want a hatcher instead of a Sportsman with 3 turning racks and a hatching tray? Do you plan to incubate in your table top incubators and then hatch in the hatcher? I have been doing it the other way around. The cabinet is so constant in temp and humidity (as long as there is water in the tray) that I have been incubating in the cabinet and hatching in my 2 Hovabators. The downside is that I have to manually turn the eggs in the cabinet. I think that the Sportsman would be the perfect solution. I know that Sarah loves hers! Cheryl had them too along with the expensive RCom 50 digital. I hatched a couple groups of chicks for her with the RCom 50. Talk about automatic! You just fill the reserve from the outside and it is good to go!

On another note, when I went to check on the peepers for the last time, I saw something odd.
I have 4 cages stacked 2 high & 2 wide then set against the coop wall - these are my maternity wards. Langshan broody with UofA eggs is in a top one.
I look at the cage below her & I realize I see feathers between the wall & the cage. No - it's a whole wing - No - it's a whole bird.
Oh gawd, it must be dead. No - it's still alive!
Easily rescued, happier & a bit wobbly still, it's walking around fine after eating & drinking, just holding it's wing a little funny. I checked & no broken bones thankfully.
And, wouldn't you know? It was a jubilee orpington pullet - OF COURSE.
It's always your favorite or your most valuable that get into trouble.
I'm so glad I went for that last egg check & averted the crisis.
Silly chicken. I think I'll name her Murphy.
