Oh boy, are they cute

I like her nest box! Love broody hatches! Congrats!

Six little pyncheons here, pipped, zipped and fluffed in under24 hours under first time broody. She worked her magic on all the eggs that I left her with after day 10.

oh my goodness so tiny and sweet!

Petunia's chicks are 5 weeks and she has kicked them to the curb. She has spent the morning looking for somewhere to lay. They are the silkie/d'uccles. I have kept two. one silver one gold and I think they are SL. Girls silver like their daddy boys MF like their mom but the "girls" are also marked. I don't know what you would call it but they look like Jackson Pollack went at them with a black paint brush. Also and this may only be the girl I kept but she has a silver head and a black crest. I will try to get pics. My first chicken project of the summer is to get these two and my Del hatch and my two silkie girls feeling more comfortable with me.

That would drive me nuts! FedEx got my incubator to me in 2 days, one day earlier than expected.

I did go cheap on the shipping, so I kind of brought it on myself. I used the 'savings' to justify getting the advance instead of the eco.

I have high hope for 2 - the last 1 does not look like it ever developed but I couldn't candle it well in the daylight.
I have to take it inside the house & into the closet to be sure. Or I guess I could tent myself with a big thick beach towel. Now, there's a visual....

"Once you are all out of your shells & the nosey human leaves"

@tommysgirl yes, I like recycling cardboard boxes for nests. They are easily transportable & replaceable. Wine/liquor boxes are my favs because they are made from strong, double-layer cardboard. The ones that last the longest have a shiny printed finish on the outside (like the one pictured above). Someone inevitably wants to roost on top & the poo won't soak into the cardboard nearly as much. Easy to scrape clean too. I wish I had designed my built-in boxes around a standard size cardboard box so I could insert the cardboard box, then later transplant broodies easier by just moving the box with the hen in it into a maternity ward.

How long has it been incubating?

If it has been more than three days, you maybe seeing he veins forming.

It is best to leave them alone for 7 days.
