I did ask them if I could sell chickens there & they said they had someone selling chicks last week so it sounds like it's fine. BUT I'm asking if I legally need some kind of permit or something to sell livestock somewhere besides out of my home. I just want to make sure I'm not breaking any laws...

I think they are supposed to be 95% pullets with sexed feedstore chicks. I bought 3 for the "blue" eggs last year, but couldn't keep them all, so I gave away one and kept the "unique, pretty one" and another. I had no idea at that time that the reason the one was so unique was also the reason he was definitley a cockerel. This is what he turned out like...

I was able to find a home for him. The other one I kept laid plain old brown eggs. I rehomed her too.

I now have an OE roo I need to rehome. He is from OE shipped eggs for @Chickengirl1304 . He has BCM coloring and a big black beard. If anyone would like a nice roo or knows of anyone in the area who doesn, send them my way! He crowed for the first time 2 mornings ago and has been sleeping it the shed in a raccoon trap since then. If I can't find a home for him in the next week he is going to freezer camp. I really hate to do that with him.

Magpies were hit hard by West Nile. There are not very many any more and some sub species are thought to be extinct now.

They are a pest for those growing nuts.

I have Delawares and Dorkings hatching Two more to go!
I like the crows nesting behind our property. They and the jays are indicator species for WN, as long as they are hanging out I figure we are relatively safe. No articles about losing horses like a few years ago.

Not sure if they will be back but there were a pair of mocking birds nesting in a tree in front of the fairgrounds entrance, everytime I walked by they would dive bomb me. They were actually striking me on their dives.

I miss magpies, they are up at Crater Lake but not down this far.

Every area has it's own rules on selling outside of the home so to be safe I would call city hall in your area and find out their rules for the area I know I have to make a trip to our city hall and it is an hour and a half away just one way to get any and all permits .....

I HATE those things. They have no redeeeming qualities I am aware of. They don;t even have a nice song!
...
I don't think I have ever seen a Magpie up here on the ridge. We don't get mocking birds either...they are one of the things I miss most about San Jose.
I had a really pretty pair of mockingbirds move in this spring; one of the first driven off by the jays. And some red and yellow sparrows.

We have a bunch of English walnuts that they love, we never get them all picked up so I really don't mind the chickens and local birds eating whats left on the ground.

One year I noticed my hummingbird feeder swaying like crazy out on the front porch. I took a closer look and saw a huge American Goldfinch on it trying to drink the nectar out of it. It was the only one I have ever seen at my house. I didn't even know they would have any interest in nectar. It sure was gorgeous!

California does require a seller permit, but it's free. It is is you bought the eggs, then sell the chicks. I know one of the bird shows I went to a few years back did require anyone selling birds have one. You can go to www.ftb.ca.gov for mor info on it. They do expect you to charge and pay tax on anything you sell the is not for human consumption. Most people I know do not have have a permit. If you are going to do it on a regular basis I would see about getting one just to be "legal". This is info from a PDF file for the FTB (Franchise Tax Board)

Q: Who must obtain a seller's permit?
A: The requirement to obtain a seller's permit applies to
individuals as well as corporations, partnerships, and limited liability companies. Both wholesalers and retailers must apply for a permit. You must obtain a seller's permit if you:
 -Are engaged in business in California and
 -Intend to sell or lease tangible personal property that
. would ordinarily be subject to sales tax if sold at retail.

Is this a fertile egg?
