What kind of eggs do you plan on setting?
I'm not sure. I've been watching Papa's Poultry's FB for more specials. He posted some today, but they're all in bigger batches. I might send him a message asking him about a smaller deal. I haven't hatched eggs in SO long, since I was a kid. I really want some of his Cuckoo Silkies, but would bantam eggs be a bad idea to learn on?

The Golden Cuckoo Marans he has listed sound gorgeous, but I want to see how many of my current Marans are pullets before I get any more. His LF Chocolate Orpingtons are too pricey for a 'starter' hatch, and again I want to see how many of the BBS Orpingtons I'm growing out are pullets that will stay here before getting more.

I've been watching his Facebook page, too, though I really shouldn't be because it's just driving me crazy. I wish I was ready to buy more eggs because the deals he has going on are fantastic! Hopefully he'll still have deals going on after my first hatch.
I'm not sure if bantam eggs would be bad to learn on. I have two going with my first hatch but they were free. So far one is developing and the other is clear, but I know that might change by tomorrow.
Would you be getting the eggs shipped to you? It was recommended that I don't start with shipped eggs because of the low hatch rates that can come from them.

I think I could probably talk my husband into going to Redding for them, but with a 1 and a 3 year old he wouldn't be too excited about it. If we're making a day of going up and seeing my sister it should be doable though.

You guys could check out the Shasta Ruins, it's a ghost town from the 1800's. Very cool place, though it's not fun to be there after dark, sitting on the ground crying your eyes out because you have a dead phone battery and have locked your keys in your car. LOL

lol yeah, we'd probably skip the crying and locked keys part. Poor thing. We usually take the kids to Turtle Bay but it doesn't look like it has too much going on right now.

I've got to be in Chico for a good portion of next Monday, maybe I can keep an eye out for something there.

Edited to add: Does anyone know anything about Feathered Friends Poultry in Forest Ranch? I've tried contacting them through Craigslist ads they post several times in the past and they've never even bothered to respond to my questions about their birds.
