Last weekend I saw some fresh eggs at Whole Foods--Fertile from Sanoma....

Are TJ's fertiles all Leghorns Ive been trying to get some answer but no one seems to have a definitive.

I just called my vet to see if they can test for mycoplasma, they're going to call their lab and get back to me after 9 when the lab opens.

So if this is MG and I choose to euthenize a bird and send it in, can I do this AFTER they have recovered since I will be treating it? Can I have my vet euthenize the chicken with an injection like they do for dogs/cats, or will this affect the results?

I went through this. Vets rely on information supplied from the lab. Lab test first. Vet visit may be unnecessary. You can take a live bird to the lab. They will humanely euthanize. You actually get better results doing it this way. Take the bird with the worst symptoms.
My tests for MG always came back unconclusive during the time period that I was seeing symptoms in my flock. A couple years after I was no longer seeing symptoms, the tests were negative for MG.

Baytril is a banned drug.

From what Ive read WF dont seem to hatch or have serious fertility problems. May be something in the processing transportation. TJ's seem to have a better track record.

All the pictures I've found where of White Leghorns or what appeared to be Austra Whites or California Whites... but I don't know that no one's ever hatched anything else from them.

Yes, TJ's are white leghorns. Whole earth sells Austra Whites.

I had 5 out 12 hatch from Rock Island eggs at SaveMart...

Whole foods probably does not keep proper breeding pens and so they are less fertile.

Go with TJs then. The White Leghorns are very nice.

I use those or the one a size up. I bought large thin cement bricks to put them on 10×10 or 8 x 8 or something 1 inch thick so they don't shavings on or in it. That made the water last twice as long.

I think I will measure & see if getting a bigger one & putting it on a garden stone will work. Twice as big would be a big help if it doesn't get mucked up......

You should call the lab at UC Davis and ask them exactly what they needs to test for mycoplasma and how much it costs, then talk to your vet about it. Any of us can send blood samples and nasal swabs to UCD for testing. The testing is not free, but it should be cheaper than the lab your vet uses (usually Idexx). Make sense?

Baytril is banned, but it's cheap, easy to get and *very* effective. If I could only have one drug, it would be Baytril.
