My kitty is still missing. 8 years with him and now he's just vanished. We have been trying to figure out how he got out, and can't. He was seen at dinner, and by dinner time all doors were closed and locked. The next morning, he was gone. We thought maybe someone came in the house and took him, but that's not possible because all the doors were locked. How does a cat just vanish from a locked house, and how does just his collar appear three streets down? I don't understand it. I'm so torn up, I need a new dog to foster to keep my mind off this but I may not be able to foster the dog I want to.

On a chicken-related note, can you guys post pictures of your adult Pita Pintas? I've seen baby pictures but would like to see what your adult stock looks like.

I had a great adventure getting a picture of Pepe, my Pita Pinta Rooster(Hi is right at a year old now). He wanted to go visit with the 8 week old Partridge Penedesenca pullets. There was a poop incident and he is a very heavy boy...





I messed up his comb by not letting him have enough light. It would be a very nice comb otherwise.

Pita pintas for pure breeds. Bresse get as big but we did not like them as much for taste.

They were 3.5 pounds at 16 weeks and 4.25 dressed at 20 weeks.

You can tell from the one in the back of the picture that the breast will be big on that one.

I did like the Dorking X Barred rock cross, but you would have to keep two flocks for that and they were no faster growing than the Pita Pintas. The Pinta Pintas grew faster than the EO Marraduna Basque but they are a good choice too.

To answer the earlier question about why I have these Spanish breeds, they have not been ruined for their dual purpose utility. Hatchery chickens do not have it and a lot of breeders do not care about how fast they put on meat or how many eggs they lay.

Those of us with the Pita Pintas and EO Basque know how well they lay and how fast they grow. Also, they do very well in the heat here and Pita Pintas are winter layers!

Black Penedesenca
I also have a trio of partridge Penedesenca id like to keep
along with some bantam brown Red Ameraucana and a few splash


on another note though I do have a few extra s

also have a lot of crele penedesenca boys and some crele olive egger hens
I could set someone up with a pair of them

Somehow I unsubscribed and have really missed this thread. Just caught the pita penta rave reviews, tho, thankfully. Tasty, tolerate heat and grow out fast and soooo cute. Next year...;-)

So sorry that your kitty has disappeared. We had one adventurous cat who got accidentally shut in a neighbor's empty house when the Realtor had it open. She was gone for 4 days and came back very skinny & hungry. A few weeks later, she disappeared again and never returned. At the time, there were several empty houses up for sale in the neighborhood. We hope that she didn't go exploring and got shut in again. We would rather believe that someone wanted her and she is happily living with a new family.

Actually, the German strain are the ones that Kathy used to develop her new line of Delawares. The typical American strain of New Hampshires were improved upon by the Germans and now have been imported back here to the States.

Don't forget to check the local animal shelter/pound. Someone may have turned him in. The lost/found section of craigslist is a good resource too.

My cat went missing one time, and I walked the neighborhood ringing doorbells and calling her, then stopping to listen for her. After over a week with no results, I almost gave up. I went to check again with the neighbor right next door, and after I got done talking with him I heard a little meow as I walked by his garage. Sure enough, it was my Lily. She had got locked in, and they rarely used their garage. Fortunately Lily had been a bit on the tubby side, so had no ill effects, but she did drink steadily for 20 minutes when I got her home.

I hope you find your little guy.

Yeah!! First Egg

Suspect its Lurk who laid it because she was the one who was first to squat.
Here it is next to a store bought large egg. Its small but i understand they get bigger over time.


I'm so excited as a reward they got some older cantaloupe squares and the seeds from a new one I just cut up from my garden.

I also cleaned out the run and under the coop and put sand down under the coop so I can wet it down tomorrow.

Its going to be hot today so Ill have some ice bags out today too.

Looks like I may have a home for 2 of my foster buffs.
