I have a pullet acting strange this afternoon. She is in the pen with the meat birds awaiting processing this weekend. I came home around 2:00 and she was sitting kind of funny in the pen. She was leaning a bit forward on her keel. I nudged her a bit and she stood up and basically fell over forward and does not seem to be able to stand. I brought her in and put her into a carrier with water. It is hot but not super hot today (Mid 90's). She feels a bit on the light side. Any ideas as to what this could be? She is about 14 weeks old.

Were the meat birds letting her get to food and water?

As far as I can tell they were but I can't be sure. They have been knocking a lot of the crumbles on the ground so she should have been able to to those. I have a nipple set up with drip cups for water. She is good sized and is one of the "meat bird mix" birds I hatched for the Easter HAL. She is one of 6 from that hatch and they have been pretty pushy with the meat birds in the past. I will add some electrolytes to the water for her and see if that helps.

She does not seem very interested in water, but was happy to bite me to express her appreciation of the jesture. She actually seems to roll almost completely over when she tries to move around. I did dip her beak a few times, but she kept it closed and didn't try to drink.

It sounds like an injury--check her over for wounds.

Quote: I checked her over and don;t see any obvious wounds, but she does react when I palpate her abdomen just below her vent. I don't feel anything there (like and egg that might be pressing on some nerves), but it is definitley a strong reaction. She is too young to be producing eggs anyway I think. They are supposed to be a Cornish/Rock/Wyandotte mix, but 2 of them have beards. Not sure if there are EE in the mox too or she just put a few eggs in with the others.

These guys are all about 4 months old, maybe a little younger. They're all boys, am I right? Two have rose combs and one has a regular comb.

The first one looks like it could be a hen to my untrained eye, The other 2 look more like boys....but at 4 months they should be getting close to POL and might have bigger combs/wattles.
Sorry about your hen, Vicki, I hope she feels better soon.

Thank you! Me too. Hoping it is something that will pass.

They should be crowing!

My Penedesencas start crowing a 6 weeks old...

It is hard to tell with that kind of comb.
