Without malice or prejudice I really wish we would not indulge in mystical and elusive abbreviations. What is an oe? Then there is the case of calling a bird a sex link. Sex linkage is a genetic condition and not a specific type nor an identifier of a bird's ancestry. There are an array of birds derived from breedings utilizing sex linkage: red stars, black stars, etc. and 15 or 20 more. Thus the term as an identifier is a waste of everybody's time and is of no value. I urge my fellow chicken nuts to use a little more precision in descriptive language otherwise many, if not most, of the readers have no idea what one is talking about. Stated respectfully for contemplation and consideration as I am generally very fond of this forum and its contributors. Do you agree?

Yes, we should try to use less abbreviations.

PP can be Pita Pinta, Partridge Penedesenca and etc.

Some use CL, CLB and CCL for Crested Cream Legbars.

OE is usually Olive Egger but it can be mis used for Old English Game bantam which should be OEGB

My good man, I'm espousing NOT using any abbreviations at all. As a nation are we now in a situation wherein we are too lazy to type out a few letters more in order to assure clarity in our exchange of ideas? That is pathetic if so. Throughout history one could tell the state of a nation by measuring its use of its native language and its attendant vocabulary as a barometer. More vibrant countries have a more extensive use of its language. It is not unlike the difference between two artists, one who has 4 colors on his palette compared to one who has a palette of say 20 colors. Guess who is likely to paint the more exciting or captivating panorama? The defense rests…

Anacronyms are part of any language and are used to improve the speed of communications. If I had to type out
Society for the Prevention of Cuelty to Animals every time I wanted to refer to the SPCA I would probably never even say anything.

It is however important for the person who is using them to ensure that the audience is clear on what they mean. We do get a little lax sometimes especially in this Twitter/Texting culture and we should be well aware what we are communicating.

Use of fairly standard abbreviations is nothing new if a person is unfamiliar with them then there needs to be a means to educate yourself.

I hatched some Crested Cream Legbar (CCL) chicks this week. It looks like I have three pullets and four cockerels. CCLs are funny. They are much quieter than most of the chicks I hatch.

Two of my CCL(using your abbreviation) cockerels have been crowing since 8 weeks. Though not really loud and full throated yet, they are pretty quite generally though and the girl only makes the sweetest little peeps and cooing noises. My Pita Pintas (Pita) are very quite birds.

We let the CCL boys into the back yard and let the Delaware boy and Pitas out as well. That was a disaster. The Delaware started picking fights. I think he has started to claim the little CCL girl. The Pitas were perfectly fine with everyone in fact they shuffled back off into the pen on their own.

They are all 10 weeks old so I think the hormones are starting up for the boys. Also the CCL boys are so much smaller than the Del and Pitas I'm sure there was some thought to intimidating them but they were having none of it.

One of the CCL still has what looks like bed head all over his back and wing shoulders. He is a pretty sweet guy though.
