I love my big blue Langshan. She is a good layer plus a good setter/mama when I let her go broody
She hatched & raised some University of Arkansas blue-egg-layer eggs for me this year.
Mine's from a hatchery - I'll bet a breeder-raised one like yours would be even better.

She is a sweetie but I also have 2 Pita Pinta pullets that are about the same age that are the friendliest! They have white legs & beak so I can't use them for breeding.

This list is full of inaccuracies. As an example. .BL -black Leghorn. But it could be barred, blue etc and that is how people on this site use these acronyms. In the real poultry world most of these acronyms are not used. I have been raising poultry for 50 years and I have to ask what some of these abbreviations mean. Lol

The Pita Pinta x Cream Legbar eggs are darker than expected.

I know! I was so excited when I got the first one! I do have a pullet that is a Pita Pinta/Olive Egger cross (3/4 Black Copper Marans/1/2 Ameraucana) but she isn't old enough to be laying so they are not her eggs. I'm looking forward to seeing what color of eggs she will lay!

I am trying to keep myself occupied until I get the "get down here right now" call. Her husband is a private person and I'm trying to respect his wishes.

So, I've been taking chicken and egg pics. Sorry if I overwhelm the thread but it does keep me busy!

My Pita Pinta/Cream Legbar cross pullets just started laying eggs this past week. I think that I have 3 laying right now.

The 3 blue eggs at the top of the plate are Cream Legbar eggs and all the green eggs are pullet eggs from my new layers. I'm thrilled with the color!

This is an older pic but she hasn't changed much. You can see that her eyes are too light. I'll have to check to see how old she is but I think that she is around 20 weeks old.

Oh she's cute!! Yeah the eyes are light, but that doesn't bother me. Is she pretty quiet? Docile?

Finally got a new camera I only had my " flip phone" or an iPad to take pictures with for the last few months.

First chicken pics with the new camera.





I'm still learning how to use it. But, I got some pictures of my son at soccer last night and I managed to catch clear action shots from across the field

Nice pictures! It is amazing the difference a good camera can make. I went from a little automatic pocket camera to a Nikon SLR and the difference is emense. I take a lot more pictures now because I know they will come out so much better. I 'm still not a "Photographer" like @BCollie , but at least I know people will be able to see what I want them to in pictures.

I have to laugh every time I am led onto this forum looking for something as it moves SOOOOO fast. I can't believe I used to be able to keep up. But, no way now. Anyways, yes she picked them up. I am sure last time it was that the sat in West Sac in the back of a truck for 10-12 hours in the heat we had!! That week, I had literally 0 eggs out of probably 50-60 that shipped develop. And many of those I had set the same breeds and I had normal development on the ones that I set. When I looked into it with my postmaster she said west sac had been backed up all week so trucks were literally just dropping their trailers and the west sac folks got to unloading it when they had time. :-( In any case, they are laying again, so we can try again when the weather looks cooler or whenever you want. I think it was a fluke. most of the eggs that I've had shipped in Northern CA develop at about 65-75% of my normal development rates, and about 55-65% of my hatch rate. I've done a few tests recently where I set half of the exact same eggs I shipped. Out of 40, I had 37 develop and I hatched 33. The person I shipped to had around 26-28 develop of the 40 eggs and around 18 hatch. Numbers may not be exactly correct as I can't recall and obviously there could be incubation differences but it's a telling tale about dealing with hatching shipped eggs even just within a few hours drive of the shipper. Small chance I will be going to chico in the next few weeks so if I do we can meet up.

OR, if anyone travels the redding to chico trip and wants to haul along some eggs let me know.

OH WAIT!!! I am pretty sure someone is coming tomorrow from Chico to get some chicks.... love it when the brain kicks in. Let me look up her messages and see if that's right. I'll send you a PM... sorry for those of you witnessing my thought process in text form!!!

I am very sure it was the PO handling of them too since I have heard nothing but good things about your eggs and chicks from everyone I know that has bought from you. It is good to know the explanation for what likely happened to them. Wouldn't you know it would be the week I had eggs coming that would happen. If you do have someone coming up from Chico and they are willing I would love to try again with another batch of eggs. I think if it won't work out this week though, I will propably wait until spring. I don't know if I will get another broody this summer and I much prefer to have them raise the chicks. Let me know what you are able to find out on the Chico person and how much the eggs would be and we will go from there!
