California - Northern

Hi all! @ronott1 I am close to 500 posts behind so I am going to hop in and share pics of the chicks you hatched for me. Plus for @lualshannon here is Ike. Who has been brilliantly tolerant of the young cockerels. So in the foreground L to R is my PP pullet, the enormous Konza I have named Magnus and Reese their Konza hatchmate. They hatched on 7/2. In the back is one of my wacky Red Star cockerels. He and his two brothers will be in the freezer within the week. Ike is a honey and I am looking forward to the two NH pullets I will be bringing home for him in a few weeks.

Daphne: I have to get a distance away from her to take a picture b/c if I get too close she is on me. Far and away the most interactive chick I have had. Also looking forward to getting more like her in the spring

See why I call him Reese?

Magnus is probably my keeper. He started out big and that is what I would want to pass on to his offspring. I hope that I can get Konza eggs from Arielle in the spring. The Konza rooster would be in with my laying flock. Hoping for faster maturing larger barnyard mixes for the table from this guy

Renee was going for many qualities with the Konza one being a bird that would be less visible to ariel predators. Reese has the camo thing down.

Here are all three plus the little PP boy I lost. Ron hatched em all. The one I lost is the snowy white one in the back then Reese, Magnus and Daphne.
Check out the width of Magnus' stance. He is still a wide body!

Magnus and Reese in the back.

Hope your flocks are healthy and happy. Sorry to drop in with an "all about me" post.
Hugs to all who have suffered losses,
Cheers to all who have been on the receiving end of those lovely first eggs
Congrats on successful hatches
Atta Boys and Atta Girls to all award winning birds and the folks who bred them
Kudos to all of you who are here to Tanswer questions about birds in trouble. You are the BEST resource on the web!!
They are looking so nice!

The Pita Pintas are second to silkies for their pet qualities. They are so calm and friendly!

Daphne walks up and seems to ask to be picked up. When I pick her up she gives me gentle pecks on my nose and cheeks. On the other hand, my silkies are feeling pretty unfriendly right now haha. Double shot of Broodzilla. The Sizzle has eggs the Blue will get a few today. Those are the only two nest boxes in the coop. Both of these girls are unbearably ruthless with the other birds when they are in the "family way"

So the little chick is getting worse he still isnt standing on his own and when he chirps its very weak. idk what to do

It will have to be tube fed and still may not make it.

It may well have wry neck--It looks a bit twisted but not much in the picture. It takes b vitamins too for wry neck and often a week to see results.

If it seems to be suffering, consider culling.

iM actually using a hollowed out and cleaned turkey egg shell to keep him upright. he keeps his eyes closed alot of the time so idk what to do i cant tell if he looks to be suffering

Quote: I wonder if the heat and lack of rain has an impact when they start the molt.

Great looking bunch of birds. The more I see Pita Pintas the more I want some in the spring!

Quote: Looks like it's time for some new nest boxes! Could be dangerous trying to collect eggs from those...

My broody-tease is at it again, only more so

I'll let you know if she sleeps in the box tonight and tomorrow. If she does, I'll not move her this time, and start looking around for eggs again. I figure I can get away with not marking eggs if I only get eggs of a color that no one I have lays, right?

ETA: Of course, my husband is headed down to Santa Rosa with a couple other people to preach at a church that Sunday. That's be a bit long to leave her waiting for eggs, right? I don't think chick transport would happen, being with other people...

Fingers crossed she will stick this time. Using the egg color to keep track should work.....as long as no one decides to switch up their color on you....
