How do you stop young chickens from hurting themselves on the hardware cloth. Almost every one of mine has at some time or another pushed their beak through the wire with such force that the base of their comb (like the bridge of the nose) bleeds a little. The latest was my CLB girl she bled so much that it was dripping off her beak for a bit. We put some neosporin gel and then some Veticryn on the bridge of her nose and she seemed fine after it stopped.

The weird thing is the bleeding didn't seem to bother her one bit. Her temperament and everything was unchanged she was her happy self. With her bobbing her head everywhere I was afraid she was going fling blood drops places but it quickly quit bleeding and you can barely tell now that she even did it.

So far she has bled the most of any chicken and it was only ran for a few drops.

Is there a better treatment?

Have you posted in the Buy~Sell~Trade section? He is very pretty, but It would be helpful to advertise him as an Easter Egger since he is not a purebred Ameraucana.

Frizzle showgirl (shizzle) - This one's my fav: light grey with red leakage (light calico?) Hope it's a girl

Nice black one

A pretty blue/gray one

One a side note, it looks like I have 3 chocolate & 7 black orps of the 10 I hatched from @Papa Brooder . 2 of the 3 chocs have noticeable combs - please please please don't ALL be boys. Grrr...
Of the 8 other chicks, it looks like I have 4 blue frizzled silkies, 1 white frizzled bantam cochin, a partridge silkie, a white silkie, and a dark gray silkie with white tips on its wing & feet feathers (cool!)

Hi. Yes, I did post in buy, sell, trade as well. I purchased him as a purebred from a reputable place. How do I know he isn't if they say he is? Paid extra in fact.

Because he is not a standard Ameraucana color. Another clue is that he has green instead of slate colored legs. If you go to the ABC website and look at the accepted Ameraucana colors you will see that pure Ameraucanas do not come in that color. Sorry.

I was counting from the outside. They have 5 toes...right? So wouldn't that be the 2nd to or the 4th toe if counting from the inside?

(I know on the long post. Didn't realize just how long it was until I had to scroll down past it. Sorry......
