California - Northern

@Papa Brooder
has what he has labled an EE pen because there are EEs in it though it is mostly BBS AMs.  I have two girls that I hatched from his eggs.  One dark blue and one med blue.*  Both are lovely.   He will ship you eggs and/or chicks and will do a custom hatch for you as well.

ETA* the pullets not the eggs.   The eggs they came from were light blue ;)
My parents are outside of Redding, towards Lassen Park, they are headed this way next month. Or could be an excuse for a road trip. :D

though we had a lot of lightning last night the rain was a welcome sight up here. smells like rain .
Driving by Placerville Fairgrounds and Raleys next store is a pretty amazing sight to see with hundreds of firefighting vehicles.

at Oktoberfest in Placerville yesterday afternoon I counted numerous water tanker planes and a dc-10 flying towards and away from the fire at lower altitudes then you normally see planes.
Coming from the ridge over placerville south of town on hwy 49 you could see the smoke billowing up from the canyon north of Camino somewhere

What a terrible fire!

I have seen the fire camps in Woodland and at Woodson state park by Corning. It is an impressive operation.

I watched borade bombers up in Redding one time as they were dropping it on a fire at the north part of town. My brother was dumping water onto sparks that were falling around my Mom and Dad's house. Luckily she has a tile roof or that house would have burned down.

UPDATE on EE, Penny:
Sick pic:
400

All better pic:
400

I think she got into some nitrogen fertilizer as the shed door was open and there were a couple chicken poos in there.
I'm very thankful for her quick recovery and that I had learned so much first aid stuff here so I had a plan. My parents were skeptical that I needed to bring her inside, but were mollified when I explained it was for isolation and observation. They are of the generation that remembers the family farm and chicken flocks that got no coddling. But they were both happy that Penny, the fierce one, is all better.
It was a great comfort to post and get further instructions, like an egg problem can be felt from the outside (ronott1). So thank you all for being here and sharing and caring!!

best wishes to all working and living near the fires.

One of the the faculty in my department picked up two Pita Pinta pullets today. They are very happy in their new home.

I love them! I need to get on your list for eggs next spring......

Today my 16 month old ate chicken food. She was helping feed them and tipped the scoop up into her mouth and poured some in - happy munching :D
That is all.

That's great! So glad to see her doing better. Did you treat her or did she just get better on her own?
