California - Northern

I sent that rain down special
wink.png
I knew Northern California needed it. My rain started Tuesday night. Wednesday morning no one wanted to go out until the afternoon and I HAD to be with them. But we found worms. I had a crowd following me while weeding.

Good luck with the wrist, yuck for having to be in a cast. Joints don't like casts.
Thanks for the rain!

It is a mess with broken wrists and etc.

I head back home to pick her up soon too.

. It rained some here as well, and my youngest birds that are out in grow-outs are acting like they're being asked to come out of a bomb shelter after a nuke was dropped. Their little minds are blown.

Lots of metal in me, lol, I know all too well how frustrating these types of injuries can be.

For those that use that worm with 3cc of Safeguard in a gallon for three days, you should read this post: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...feather-damage-while-molting/50#post_14133795

Click with caution, post contains graphic necropsy picture.

Oh my!

I treated with valbazen, two treatments a week apart.

Now problems with them.

Those that worm with Valbazen orally, or with enough of it in water are very unlikely to have problems like that. Unfortunately, and I don't know when/where it started, many people read that giving 3cc's Safeguard in a gallon of water was an acceptable way to de-worm.

I used a tube and a syringe. They got the correct dosage. Feathers started coming back on a couple of the within three days too.

Alright everyone - I need some brutally honest info: for those of you that sell eggs and chicks - how large of an operation do you need to actually make money, not just cover feed, etc but actually cash in hand? Is it possible to do without shipping? What kind of equipment do you run (i.e. do you need a large cabinet incubator, or multiple small ones, etc) What do you do with the chicks that don't sell as day-old straight runs? How young can you take them to an auction (provided I can find one close)?

I ask because the company my husband has been with for the last 17 years was bought out and is being shut down next month. So, I need to make some fast hard decisions on what direction my "hobby" is going.  We have 1/2 acre and a 3 year old so I think raising to POL for pullets and butchering size for roos to sell is out, at least for a while.

On the same note; anyone interested in some 8 week old BBS Marans pairs or trios?
Hi! Sorry to hear about your husbands job :(

As for your question, check out this fb group. https://m.facebook.com/groups/385734384856048?ref=m_notif&notif_t=group_activity&actorid=1327865451

Some insight to the selling of the rare breeds that go for a good amount of money. And feel free to PM me if you like. My real name is Launi Hubbard I'm on that fb group and sell on there. You can kind of see how I and others do their sales; auctions, but it now, chicks, hatching eggs etc...

Well, I'd probably shoot for April, but from what I hear "April" can easily mean "July or August"

. I'm going to be pretty flexible with them on shipping, since apparently finding rose comb Rhode Island Whites is just a snipe hunt anywhere else, lol.
I think I will go for it. If you let us know before you place your order I will tell you for sure but right now I am thinking Why Not? Do you know (or anyone else) if they ship Bantams with LF?

Quote: None of mine for that same pen yours came from have crowed yet. They may not get as much light where I have them as yours are getting. They are about 7 weeks now so I should hear crowing soon. I need to sort the boys from the girls and decide who I am keeping and who is going in the freezer. I also have a younger group about ready to move to that pen that is all Jumbos and Goldens.

We have a local group around here called "Top Cats" that catches, neuters and releases feral cats. I caught a rough looking black male cat in my inner secure-able pen one day up on top of the coop. I went to chase him out and forgot I had pulled the door closed behind me. He hit the wire so hard trying to get out that he pushed it completely loose from the frame. We set a humane trap and caught it about 3-4 days later and took it to the shelter. When they took him to the back to take him out of our trap the noticed that he hat a snipped ear. That is how Top Cats marks the cats they neuter and release. So at least I knew he did not belong to anyone. He looked like a young tom cat but may have been neutered before he was old enough to get too jowl-y. I don;t know what they did with him...if they contacted Top Cats and had them pick him up or if they euthanized him. We had another one show up..this one a blue tortoiseshell... a week or so back, but the dogs chased her off twice and I haven't seen her since. Hopefully she won't be back. When we do have to trap them we usually try to assess whether they act like a feral cat or a someones pet. If they act like pets we will release them.

BTW.....I might be interested in helping you round out that order with Sand Hill too..... I am in Paradise, so not too far away. Let me know when you decide. I know you have to send payment when you place the order...

My light wasn't bright enough to get any good photos, though.
YEAH!!!!!!

It is raining in Woodland!

I spent yesterday from 4:15 to 8 at the Ortho Docs in Sacramento@ucd medcenter for an appointment for my Wife. Her knee is painful but will be fine. The ligaments are intact but there is bruising on the bone and tissue in the knee. That was great news! The broken then pinned and plated bone is healing fine.

Bad news was that the dislocated wrist joint that was reduced right after the accident was back out. It has been out for several weeks so has started to "heal" in the wrong position. They tried to put it back in but that did not work. We will be back there this afternoon to see a hand specialist--Likely to set up a surgery for the hand and then 6 weeks in a cast.

Should of had a cast to hold the joint in place fro a couple of weeks at least any way....what do I know though....
Aww...man. That's is no fun. I hope she gets everything working again soon...

Quote: Why thank you! We definitely needed it!
