@ronott1 ....I have been meaning to ask you...... Is the chicken in your avatar a Pita Pinta? My Mottled Ameraucanas are getting was too much black for me. The oldest one I have just started laying and she looked like this at hatch in March:

Like this right after she fully feathered out in April:

This in May

And this around July:

And this now:

As you can see, she has graudually gotten darker and darker.

Do the Pita Pintas do that too?
She is a stunning specimen - perhaps her spots will change as she molts? How does one go about breeding in MORE mottling? On the green egg note, I have one AM that lays green eggs. I was sooooooooooooooooooooooo sad. I'm hoping

to breed that out but it will be hard because I will have to find the RIGHT rooster.

My chickens were very naughty tonight. They put themselves to bed in the oddest places.

An OE pullet decided to roost in the hoses!

A Pinta Pinta likes the pet carrier!

One of my UofA pullets was roosting on the top of a post- close to 7 feet up!

They really keep me working around here....

This post made me extremely happy.

On the odd roosting, at least my worst is that they wont go inside the coop and perfer to sit on the "porch".

Im getting a pretty good rate of 4 egg days since the 5 egg day so I figure that the buff is only laying infrequently still. Its getting on to fall so things are expected to slow a little.

so far we have been getting 20-25 eggs in a week with only the the 4 delawares and now one buff orp laying. one more buff orp old enough to be laying but hasnt made a move yet. 2 more birds only about 16 weeks (Pita and CB) Hope they will lay by thanksgiving.(but fall/winter might do that in)

Looks like time for some more chicks soon.
More chicks? You have gone without chicks? And you survived?

Another fire, and in a populated area. I've been hearing that 6 houses are gone so far. This picture is from my house. We have 2 friends that were evacuated. I really hope they get this fire under control fast!

Oh this is not good. Keep us posted!

Bresse lay very nicely!
Do they lay white eggs?

I'm still figuring out my new camera. I actually got a few nice " close ups" today of a pullet from over 20 ft away. I'm by no means a good photographer either. It's just nice to get a few decent pics:)

@CackleJoy I have survivied because for a long while my Brooder was full of CLB cockerels crowing up a storm in may garage.

I love the Pita Pintas. There are such awesome birds. Gentle, quiet and smart. Sabrina the pullet I got from Debi as friend to my CLB girl seems ready to move in with the big girls even though they are currently picked on some by the buffs. They were in the run for several hours today together and Sabrina decided to visit inside the big coop all by herself. And was even inside while some of the Del's were laying.

The Delawares do not pick on the little birds much at all any more. I think reaching laying status has mellowed them even more.

The size difference makes the younger birds targets though so eventually things should be better. I probably wont fully integrate them for another 4 weeks.

Then I will have my little coop space back to bring along new birds. (Unless one of my Buffs decides to go broody and Ill try her on some fertile eggs)
So far the plan on moving new birds through the little coop and into the big one has worked pretty well.

Im planning on taking 2 Dels out to be bred with the Del Cockerel I sold to Neal (zooman) come spring. So I may be able to fit some more new birds in while they are away. I really want to have my laying flock producing Blue eggs in about equal amounts with the brown next year. So Im looking to add some UoA blues too.

I have people who will buy eggs from me so I excited about the prospects of generating about 3 dozen eggs a week from my back yard flock. The Delawares have been good egg layers so far. With 5 confirmed laying birds Im getting strings of 4 egg days now.

One thing is bothering me a bit. I got a free bag of the Layena Omega feed and Ive noticed that the eggs arent quite as vibrant as I was getting on the King feed (not to mention I dont think the birds like it as much). The bag is gone now so we will be switching back and the girls were gobbling up the Purina Flock Raiser that was in the little coop feeder when they got a chance to get into it today. (I think they like crumbles more than pellets). Im wondering if this was a sort of gang up to deny the little ones food or something of them simply liking the other better.

They all seemed to get along for the dried meal worms and were not bothered by the little ones eating scratch grains along side them or even being at their feeders. I think my birds are trying to tell me don't bring that nasty stuff back.

Post a picture on it did not really happen!

Congratulations!
Thanks, and pictures of which? The eggs or the carcass?

Stay safe, I hope they can get it contained.

I got my first egg from a Bresse pullet.
Really anxious for my Marans pullets to start too.
Got 2 nice ones from different breeders. So I'm anxious

Yay for first eggs. I'm really excited to see what color I get from my Marans, too. They know we're anticipating it, that's why they wait so long to start.

She's gorgeous! Great pattern, but I really love the green in her neck!

Thanks:) I've got quite a few good prospects in my young stock I'm growing out. I can't wait to try to take good pics of my older hens with my new camera. But, they are all molting and looking pretty ragged missing feathers. I keep doing head counts due to all the piles of feathers. We actually had a mountain lion in the area on Sunday night. Really freaked my horse and everyone out. Coyotes are a nightly threat too. An older hen...missing feathers, but the pic shows her pattern well:)

I hope your husband stays safe too!

Thanks everyone. One of our friends were allowed to return to their house late last night and grab some stuff.

Pretty pullet! Nice greenery too, what is that stuff? We are all brown here.
