As far as I know ducks need water to be happy. I do not know about free ranging and yes, get him some friends. I would wonder about goats and ducks because of the worm load in goats.

I would get silver appleyard ducks--good layers and good meat production.

I may have just missed it. Thanks Ron. I would be giving them to my uncle so I don't have a lot of say in the goat situation but I will share what you suggested.

Well, this one with the green eyes is starting to look & act like a cockerel. I can save him for you, if you like.

Did anyone see my duck questions? My uncle has one who has a rich and loving relationship with the goat. Does he need a friend or two of his own species? Do they have to range to be happy?...His doesn't but he has a pond and a big pen Breed suggestions? Cute as they are don't want any ducklings...at what age can you tell males from females?

Not positive, but I think that worms that goats get are species specific. -Kathy

ducks love friends! If it is just 2 and its a boy id recomend drakes much easier if its only boys to deal with sex raitos. You never know otherwise how many girls to boy you need. But 2 drakes qill be just ducky together (haha!!) It depends on species for when you know. Ducks have a penis so vent sexing is possible if you know wt! You are doing. Boy ducks imo are the most friendly.

on the just ducky but OH NOOOOO on the drakes. I want eggs! If I have a pair or a trio will the girls be overmated??? I have seen wild mallards mating behavior and it is not pretty.

It depends entirely on the duck. For eggs khaki campbells and golden 300s. If you want to sell chicks or eggs get the same breed its virtually impossible to sell mixed ducks except mulards.

Female ducks not babies are hard to find however.
