Yes, I noticed her.

I need one that is an enduring broody.
Hmmm wish you could tell that by looking...maybe you need a flock of 10 or so cochin.. you could almost guarantee year round boodiness. Do you know abut Nakins? There is a breeder in Santa Cruz I think. They were bred and raised specifically to brood game birds.

My first ever, from my own eggs, girl is Norma the wonder hen. Enjoy this little one and I hope it is a pullet!!!

Speaking of enduring broodies, I still have some bantam cochins that haven't left the nest box from their summer sit! And a few that got out of the box for a few weeks, molted, fattened up a bit, and went right back in to the box. Crazy birds!

Right now is tough.... I have more than enough boys and am planning to keep one from a spring hatch. I will be lighter in the cockerel dept. at the end of the month by 4. Then I can look at my 4 pens and really figure out what to do. I do want him and hope he holds off on the crowing for a month or so

since I don't have spot for him right now.

No problem - it doesn't have to be right now. A couple of months is fine. He is such a cool looking bird that I'm happy to give him a home rather than taking him to my local feed store. He is only 10 weeks old so I doubt they'll be any crowing soon. :)

Good Morning everyone! I'm just checking in with my first ever homegrown hatch and TJ babies.

Final Count - 5 Cream Legbar crosses (out of 7 - 1 clear, 1 bloodring); 2 Cochin X (out of 4 - 1 early quit; 1 still in the bator but I think its DIS) and 11

Trader Joes (out of 12 - 1 was clear). If I did my math right that's an 85% hatch - I think I got my bator dialed in and feel SOOO GOOD this morning.

Hope everyone else has a great Monday!
