Raccoons ARE the worst. Traps will be set, and I am going to purchase a game camera soon, hopefully.

I had the "missing" hen for longer than the others, and she's been through quite a lot. Years ago I had a predator wipe out my grow-out pen, and 3 days later she comes home, squawking up a storm, wanting food. I'm really hoping that will happen this time, but I'm also trying not to get my hopes up.

Sorry for your loss of the old gals.
I had a very similar story with a favorite hen, I was overjoyed when she showed up the day after a predator attack, hearbroken when a predator got her a year later.
Best wishes for a good outcome.

What a serious bummer. I'm lucky that although out in the country with lots of the stinkers, my farm dog thinks, "death to all racoons", so at least I don't have that problem! He's pretty diligent at night, so hawks in daytime are a bigger concern while they are out free ranging. A gorgeous peregrine falcon? look-alike got one of my female MF bantam Cochin pullets the first day I let them free range with the flock. then came back in the morning and sat on top of their (all wire) run and screamed at them. My hubby and dog chased it away. grrrr

Sorry for you. It is hard to lose the old-timers that have been with you awhile.

Found feathers of the "missing" hen. Pretty sure she's dead also, but raccoons don't normally eat the whole bird. What I've found is that they eat some of it, usually just the head and thighs, and leave the rest.

Can chickens get bored? My rooster is scratching around the cage they are in but my serama hen just roosts all the time or stares at the tv

Anyone from Dublin, CA? I'm trying to get a good friend some encouragement.
Thanks, patti

Then it sounds more like a fox or Bobcat? When a Bobcat or Coyote (haven't had a fox get one) have gotten one of mine they leave a trail of feathers.
