That's exciting news! I'm so glad that some are developing! With the last 2 batches of shipped eggs that I incubated, I ended up with 4 hatch out of 42 eggs and 1 hatch out of 36 eggs. One batch came by truck from N CA and the other came from Oklahoma. When you are ready for Pita Pinta eggs, maybe Monet and I can take a field trip and meet you somewhere to do the exchange.

That would be fun! I would very much like to meet you in person!

Congrats on the chicks. I hope the shipped eggs hatch for your broody.

Thanks! the shipper used a cereal box as the outside container I could feel that the entire contents was shifting around inside so there was plenty of room for movement. It will be even more of a miracle if I get any but I know a broody will be better at hatching them than I am so maybe.

I'm still weeding through mine, I had VERY heavy cockerel hatches this year. 4 culls made their journey to the freezer today.

yes I love my Penedesenca. they are about the same size as a Leghorn except the blacks which are more dual purpose.

The CA Grays were bred to be dual purpose. I like mine. They are good layers.

I've been working on a project for over a month now, and I'm, well, not done, but close to the home stretch, at least! Though the "over a month" bit is a bit unusual...

Anyway, I've been a member of a certain website since July of '01 ('tis where I got the Paperlady part of my name--the Amy came from my birth certificate

) and, the last few years, it's become a tradition to post a journal a day in November. This year, I decided to write bits of an entry on backyard chicken keeping on the even-numbered days. When the month was over, I compiled everything and edited it. Then I had @ronott1 look it over for me to make sure I didn't have any factual problems (I'd asked earlier in the month) and added a bit more tonight. Now, the way this website works is that, if you want to have what you write be officially included, you submit it to Peer Review, where it'll be checked that it fits the style of the site, and is accessible and enjoyable for laypeople (hm, that makes it sound more formal than it is...), and then it's copied into it's own page, edited and put on the Front Page. If you choose not to put something on PR, it'll still exist on the site, and people can still read it, but you don't get to say you had it on the Front Page. Kind of like the difference between having an article here, and having your article picked to go in the carousel thingy.

I posted this right before everyone else got hit hard by the storm (it seemed to have mostly skip here--all we got was a couple rainy and windy days--well, OK, there were a couple of impressive blasts on Thursday, which ended right before I had to take students to lunch, so the timing was nice, but other than that, it was what we expect in December, but haven't gotten the last couple of years) so I can understand why it got buried... If anyone can think of anything else I could link to that article, I'd appreciate it
