California - Northern

Ahhhh.....I misunderstood and thought the first picture was the Austrlorps and the second one was all TJ's. That would be something to get all those colors from TJ's eggs. What color eggs did they hatch from? The Rock Islands were light brown eggs
The eggs from TJ's were pure white, like leghorn eggs. It will be fun to see what they look like as adults.

The chicks in the picture are australorps and TJ's chicks. The chick on the far right is a Splash Australorp. I also have 4 blue australorps and 1 that is black. They are BBS Genetics.

The yellow chicks in the middle are the TJ's chicks. The chicks look like California Whites--The hens were likely White Leghorns and they would use California Gray Roosters. If so, the eggs will be white and the chickens will look like White Leghorns with no spots as adults but bigger.

The other option is that they are Austra Whites. Those are white with black spots as adults. I think they are California whites because the spots are a light color compared to the spots on the austra white chicks. Austra whites are Australorp rooster and white leghorn hens. The eggs would be mostly white but tinted.

They are very healthy chicks though so some type of hybrid vigor is going on.
My TJs that came out spotted have kept their spots. The two hens I got from my hatch are laying now (it was ridiculously exciting to find the first eggs from them). They lay a pale brown egg (maybe some would say tinted, but it looks a bit darker than just tinted to me). The eggs are nice and large, but not as big as what they hatched from. I'm pretty happy with mine. I call them Austra Whites, but I don't really know what (other than White Leghorn) is in the mix. My birds are much calmer than Leghorns have a reputation for being (but then, most of the quality Leghorns I've come across have been as well).

so question. last year i got a silver sebright roo and hen from someone at fair, i have yet to get an egg from her will she ever lay again? shes not even two yet i dont think, i got her in august. and also my silkies are almost a year and i havent gotten eggs from them either. also what color/ size are said eggs so i can watch for them. annnnnddddd if i breed silver sebright to serama will i get silver laced serama? just curious cuz i like the color

I had a trio from my Rock Island light brown eggs. They were white with a few black spots and I have been calling them Austra White-type. I sold them as a trio to a friend. She said the rooster was fine until a week or so back when it got into a very aggressive sparing match with one of her guinea cocks. She has to separate them and then the continued to try to get to each other thru the fence. they were all pretty docile here, but they were not fully mature yet. This is what they looked like when I sold them:

I'm not supposed to be buying any more chickens this year...
I know! I have a very specific list, but people keep posting the birds that came super close to making the cut and I keep wondering if I really do need them after all.

On a similar note, if I send in another order to SandHill for later in the year, would anyone be wanting in on that one? I am considering sending in another to get some of his Delawares which I've hear are fantastic old-type ones and/or some ducks.

I'm interested in barnevelders also, are you selling any?
No, I'm not bringing anything to sell. I'm showing my 2 best pullets, and they are coming home with me. I haven't culled down enough yet to get a really good look at my males. Some are quite obvious culls, so we'll see. My hatches were definitely very male heavy last year.
