California - Northern

Welcome to the thread! I have to admit that until recently, I had no idea what this meant. Our best friends live on the Placerville/Camino border and are getting involved with this movement. We are thinking about retiring to that area so of course it is very interesting to us.
Politics and religion can get us into trouble.

I have noticed on numerous forums over the years that we often come to think that those we share an interest with on the board have similar other interests and beliefs. I think its only natural to think that your "friends" think like you. We get reminded all too often that they do not. While some interests tend to have some commonality with other interests this is not always the case.

Just as some people could never consider processing and eating one of their own chickens others interest is in providing their own meat for the family. Just because we all like chickens doesn't mean we all like them for the same reasons or in the same way.

Its good to remind ourselves of this once in a while so we can also remember to be respectful of others views if we want our own to be respected.

well said

Anyway,,,it was an emotional chicken day. I know I did right by those boys and that they lived good lives up to this morning but it is hard on the psyche. Still I am proud that I was able and as my daughter said. I now have a marketable skill in the event of the zombie apocalypse.

/hugs tommysgirl. You did good!
as for the politics and shared beliefs i always remember how far apart people can be. Had an interesting discussion about the french thing last night. Someone i don't know very well had some interesting opinions i did not agree with but was glad they didn't change their mind when the religion changed.

That conversation reminded me why i don't have those conversation shaha!

The woman I sold my birds to on Sunday wants SPR. Does anyone know if Deb still has them or if there is another Nor Cal source for chicks or hatching eggs?

Shannah has Cheryl Cohen's old flock of Silver Penciled Rocks. It is hard to tell from the website if she is still in business since it has not been updated for 2015 but the site still has them on it. Find them on facebook or send an email.

They are in Vacaville

I know that the farm where Deb keeps her breeders has them but I don't think they are currently set up for breeding as most of the birds other than Debs are just free ranging. I'm sure she can tell you more.

Some of the mixes out at that farm are stunning to look at.
