I am getting closer to placing an order with Urch/Turnland poultry I am good for 10-12 chicks. Need someone(or more) to help round the order up to 25. 7.00 per chick all straight run plus 20.00 shipping split between us. I could have them delivered to me but I am pretty remotely located. I am also going to attempt to fill the order out locally.

Has anyone ordered chicks from them before? How much lead time do they give you? Do they give an approximate delivery window?

If I can fill out the order I am definitely ordering Houdan and possibly Silver Penciled Wyandottes

I so want some white Jersey Giants but I haven't been able to justify them to myself.
I already splurged on my golden-laced orp pullet.
So tempting....

is there a place online where you can tell what they have. Not sure if i would but maybe.

@HighStreetCoop - you mean my "swiffer"? :)

You know, someone should work on a frizzled white orp.
Can you imagine it?

Yes, she was soooooooooo cute!!! Maybe chicken math will get me and I'll add a coop to the side yard ...

@TheKeeper Justifying to yourself is easy... just repeat after me....They don't count until they lay, They don't count until they lay, They don't count until they lay. For Jersey Giants that gives you probably 8-9 mos before you actually "Have" them

Justifying them to a husband is an entirely different thing...but since mine started restoring his 67 Firebird it somehow got much easier

Now he just says...As long as they have enough space to be happy I am OK with the numbers.

I sent it in November, and they have said they have me slated for 'late' this year (I am supposed to have a confirmation letter with date this week) so it sounds like I will be waiting close to a year. I knew about the long wait time going in. I had heard they were generally pretty good conformation-wise unless noted in their catalog, however. I don't show, but I'll be pretty bummed out if I end up shoddy birds though. A bit more than I usually like to go through to get chicken and dumplings.
I was not real happy with the quality of black penedesenca I got from them but like Ron stated they are a preservationist and are not really selecting for quality at least on what I saw.

A few I might be interested in but I would really need to think about it. Not sure if pea comb guys will do well in the heat.
Almost all breeds should do fine in Antioch. It looks like a chicken paradise.

It is not cold enough to cause comb damage or hot enough to kill most chickens. There is some type of Nordic chicken that can't go over 80 but most handle up to 100 just fine.
