I rechecked the list that was posted, and the RC RIWs are not on it. The reds are, and the whites are on their website list. Might try calling and asking tomorrow.![]()
There are some other birds I wouldn't mind having or getting for family members, but the RC Rhode Island Whites are my chickeny holy grail right now. Can you remind me where you are located as well?
If you ever have a hen that looks like that and is a reliable broody, and she's for sale, please let me know!

It has been a while. I know I got BYC member sources recommended from there. One didn't respond to my messages, the other did but said they didn't have anything to sell last year and didn't think they would this year either.I added his page on FB to watch his birds just in case. Edit: I lied, I guess I asked in the heritage Rhode Island thread. Off to the other thread!Generally, preservationist places try to keep as many of the genes as possible in a breed. The problem is that most breeds are made from other breeds so if you do not breed to the standard you lose the characteristics of the breed. If the breeder working with the rose come Rhode Island Whites at Sand Hill knows their stuff, they may be breeding to the standard. It is not as likely with them though. The theory is that you can breed the back to standard but really?
Have you checked the Rhode Island White thread?
There are such things as chicken know-it-alls. My Dominiques are always the first to figure things out and like to remind the other hens and roosters what's what.Hello Spring Peeper, et al,
Did not mean to come off as a chicken no it all as there is really no such thing. Just lamenting being a neophyte in the realm of the computer. The camaraderie to be enjoyed in a forum such as this is priceless!
Sincerely,
Neal, the Zooman

Mostly positive. I actually really like the Doms, alert and active without being nervous, pretty food thrifty for dual purpose, my best winter producers. As far as flock politics, I have them in a flock od Marans and Easter Eggers and they're fine. They aren't really aggressive, but definitely assertive and competitive. I would not mix them with especially gentle breeds or bantams-sized birds. They don't take any nonsense from my overly boisterous Marans cockerel. I would not trust them with another hens' chicks (I keep hen-raised chicks separate from the general population anyway, though). I've heard most people say that they are talkative, mine aren't very noisy. They don't always want you to approach them and give them attention, but they will cruise by on their own terms to interact with you. I would say they're some of the most curious chickens I have owned.Hi SpringPeeper - were you talking about your Doms in the negative or positive regarding their know-it-all attitude? As adults how do you assess them in flock politics? Gentle, non-combative, assertive, aggressive, nurturing, friendly, etc? We lost our Dom chick before she grew up but found her very outgoing, unafraid, talkative, active, curious, immediately imprinting with us, whereas other breeds in the brooder would stand still or cower away from human contact. Wish we could've seen her grow to adulthood.
