Where there's a will, there's a way...
I had a chick hatch at least a week earlier than expected.
I only candled once at 7 days to determine viability & I thought one egg looked very dark... yep.

Meet Solo . . . a silkie of undetermined color (any guesses?)

Me thinks mommy stole someone else's egg (before @chiqita stole them from under her for me to incubate).
I hadn't changed the humidity or stopped the turner or anything.
I heard cheeping yesterday & thought one of my cats had caught a bird outside. Nope. It was coming from the incubator. Then came the scramble to put together brooder stuff.
Thank goodness for a feather duster or the little one would be peeping it's head off.

Look at the feathering on it's middle toe - nice!

OMG! That is the cutest chick EVER!!!

Maybe we could try to meet up:) 'Twould be fun to see the birds with someone else that's actually interested in them, as opposed to just humoring me;) Though I do think he'll be just as impressed/surprised at the sheer size of some breeds (there was a black Langshan rooster there last year:drool )

Hi, that sounds great.  I will be working with the clinic, know I can get away on Saturday, the times of the shifts have not been set yet.   Sunday there is to much going on to know for sure if I can slip away.  Does that work for you?  Rochelle

Saturday will work for me--we'll be spending that Friday night in Fortuna and coming back home Saturday afternoon or evening.

Here are a couple pics of some of my cockerels from last year's hatch. They are big, beautiful boys!

What a Cutie!!!

They look very nice!
Thanks, Ron. They are getting there. My biggest black's tail still needs to fill in and I'm hoping that the younger black will continue to grow and fill in. They are very slow to mature. I'm excited to finally have a decent blue boy to bring into my breeding program. Now to get a few more breeding pens set up!
