Me tooAbout a year ago I asked you guys for input re your favorite blue egg layer. I got a lot of great input and what I decided to do was get a couple of each Ameraucana, CL and U of A Blues and see what I like best. I started with the AM and I am not a fan. I know some lines are mellow and my girls were broody raised and that has an impact on friendliness but they were seriously wigged out flighty. I still have one because she is so pretty...Black head blue body...but am ready to give CCL a look this broody season. I am looking for girls that tend toward the silver and cream side rather than the brown. Anyone know where I can get some hatching eggs?
I have an idea where I might be able to get some U of A BluesI know they tend to be flighty too but I can forgive a lot for a true blue egg.![]()

Adorable! I wish I could have ducks but they would eat my koi.....
Where are you located again? I might want in but would need to be close enough to be able to get them from you.So anyone who wants in on the Urch order...I hope to place it within the next week. I have verbal commitments from two people in addition to myself for 16+ chicks total. As soon as I get the $ and our order is up to 25 chicks I will call it in. Just sharing so that if you are serious you know the timetable for making a commitment.![]()
Wow! That is amazing that it survived the process that far into incubation. Beautiful little chick!Where there's a will, there's a way...
I had a chick hatch at least a week earlier than expected.
I only candled once at 7 days to determine viability & I thought one egg looked very dark... yep.
Meet Solo . . . a silkie of undetermined color (any guesses?)

Me thinks mommy stole someone else's egg (before @chiqita stole them from under her for me to incubate).
I hadn't changed the humidity or stopped the turner or anything.
I heard cheeping yesterday & thought one of my cats had caught a bird outside. Nope. It was coming from the incubator. Then came the scramble to put together brooder stuff.
Thank goodness for a feather duster or the little one would be peeping it's head off.
Look at the feathering on it's middle toe - nice!
I am getting about 4-5 eggs a day, but only have 2 that are squatting. I also have had some that squatted long before they laid so I don't pay too much attention that. I have lots of AM but no blue eggs yet this season. One of my older ones is still finishing up a rough molt. Poor thing looks pretty ragged.Girls are laying good again 18 eggs so far this week (Sun-Sat) and still no blue eggs and 2 girls are still not squatting so I think I have 5 out of 8 laying right now.
The others need to get on board because Im going to breed 2 of these Dels and possibly the Pita girl this year and I still need to get eggs.
