California - Northern

If anyone is interested, I am going to order the smaller warming plate & cover (12" x 12"). If I buy 2, then the shipping is free because it's over $100 (otherwise it's $13)
Does anyone want to go in with me? I'll front the money & you can pay me when I get it to you. If I order Monday, I'll get it this week & can bring it to Modesto.
They are $62.00 (plate & cover) - no tax. They only use 22 watts/hr (as opposed to heat lamps at 100/150/250 watts/hr). The big plate is 66 watts/hr.
Way safer than bulbs & helps chickies feel safe, like hiding under momma hen.

How many chicks fit under the small one? My brooders aren't wide enough for the large one.

Where are you located again? I might want in but would need to be close enough to be able to get them from you.

Audio51 I will happily meet you in Williams to do a roadside drug...I mean chick deal. I am in Lakeport I can bring my mom and we will get a bite at Granzellas and you can get a box of nice quality fuzziness

If anyone is interested, I'm thinning down my flock and I have some Barnevelder pullets available for local pick up in the Redding/ Red Bluff area. I might be able to meet as far south as Chico/ Orland. So far, I have at least three pullets I need to rehome and I probably have more later. These three don't lay very dark eggs ( it's why I'm not keeping them for breeding), but are pretty. I'll have chicks and hatching eggs available soon as well:)

Trisha

One of the three pullets.

How much are you askingh for these beauties? I would love to add one to my flock if you could do Chico...

Well something nasty attempted to get into my coop last night. Guess I will be covering the door frame/edges in hardware cloth today.

Wow...that was determination! Glad whatever it was didn't make it thru!

Is anyone interested in Pita Pinta eggs? I will have some available to bring with me to Modesto. PM me for more info.
I am, but will not be able to get to Modesto. It sucks nor being able to drive long distances on my own..

Hello NorCal BYC folks.

I just signed up after lurking about for some time and found this post and thought I'd say hello. Our family is really looking forward to raising chickens and eating those wonderful tasting eggs.

Cheers!

Bradley
Welcome to the group! Great inbfo available here. Lots of very nice people who are happy to help out...

Is it likely that a smallish EE could be taken by a raptor and there be nothing, not even feathers, left? The chickens were in the yard yesterday, and the humans were all inside (the dog was in and out, but she leaves the chickens alone, mostly--she does occasionally rush them to see them react, but she stops 2-3 yards away with a goofy boxer grin. She's more interested in what we toss them as treats, even going as far as eating BOSS...) Anyway, I went out around 5, and everyone but Cookie were already on the roosts. My daughters and I scoured the yard multiple times--we've only got 0.18 acre, so it's not like it takes that long to look under and in the sheds, and under and in the trees, or under everything else that a chicken could conceivably get under. Later, I remembered that I'd heard an alarm call, but I'd thought at the time that the dog had rushed them (or that someone was finally laying--we'd only gotten 1 egg yesterday, from Cookie--she and Frieda being the only 2 whose eggs I can identify for certain.) I suppose it's possible that Penny did rush Cookie, and Cookie ended up over the fence, and that one of the neighborhood dogs got her...

If she went over the fence and the dog got here, there would be feathers.

Hawks do fly off with them and there would be less feathers.

She may still show up though.

@Audio51 If Williams is too far I am flexible. Let me know how close you can get to me and I will do my best to make that work...I am a little possessed with making this Urch order happen. Right now we are sitting at 16 chicks so just need a commitment for 9 more...there are a couple of other people interested who might help us get there but it would be fun to meet you.
