She's pretty!
although I love my Marans and would never part with them, I adore Ron's oe's and Arkansas blues.
Mine were hen raised (by a Marans who also raises ducks

),they are a little flighty. But would be much better
If I raised them myself.
Speaking of which: I think I may need to be on a wait list for eggs from Ron.
Those things are the best layers of pretty eggs!
*edited to add: they started laying in October and were some of my most reliable layers all winter. Them and the Bresse lay extremely well for me.
I will put you on the list!

The OEs will be different this year but similar. They will be Arkansas Blue x Partridge Pene.

I'd like to see the offspring and their eggs! I never get tired of the olive variations.
Will the Roo be the Arkansas blue?
I wonder how the eggshell colors will be similar or different to the CLxP.Pene crosses?

The egg shell color will come from the Arkansas blue Rooster. The brown coating should be darker from the Partridge Pene. They should be dark olive in color.

I will post pictures of them when I hatch them.

How close to getting Ark Blues (and possibly Pitas from you)?

polish hen has blood coming from her nostril. no one else does and shes acting fine
be sure its coming from her nostril not bleeding across them. A number of my birds will injure the bridge of the nose (beak) and the comb there will bleed. Usually from pecking through the wire.

I noticed the last few posts were about the Marans. I had a few marans but slowly i gave them away and was left with just one blue copper maran (she was a personal fav). then the other morning i went out and she was laying dead under the roost. she had roosted up the night before and she was older. so i think she just had a heart attack or something. but i would like to get a few more. I live down near Merced in the central valley. Does anyone know who in the area breeds blue copper marans or blue wyandottes? I love the blue color.

I have a FBCM cockerel and a FBCM hen and a splash Marans hen. Will be putting some eggs in the incubator tomorrow or Wednesday. I live 30 miles west of you in Newman. Have to wait and see what hatches in three weeks. I believe I am right in that we might get some blues from the splash? Kern
