California - Northern

I know this is not chicken-related, but it is farm related so I hope you all enjoy it.

Our neighbors cows jumped the fence a couple of weeks ago. We called the owner's home and cell numbers and no answer so we left him a message telling him that we had some of his cows. The cows were tearing up our garden so we decided to herd them into one of our empty pastures. Three days later, we ran into he owner at a coffee shop and told him we had 6/9 of his cows. He informed us that he never checks his messages and apologized. We told him, no problem we are enjoying having them and asked if we could keep them a little longer to mow down the grass. We have now had them for 3 weeks and have not only been impressed by their grass mowing abilities but in the amount of water they drink. Six 1000lb steer drink a full bathtub of water every day. Filling the tub is hard to because they insist on drinking out of the hose. They are soo cute and have certainly been fun additions to the farm.

That is adorable. They look quite friendly.

First hatched babies of the season: Pita Pintas, Bantam Cochins and Blue Sumatras. I'm in love. .

Adorable! I am so glad you got some Blues! I had a horrible first hatch, but did manage to get one Pita Pinta and one OE to hatch from your eggs Jules. They better be girls, that's all I have to say! The others had great fertility - did great up until about Day 18, then couldn't get them to hatch. Very fed up with my current hatching set up. That is all about to change though, as my frustration turned into shopping and I just ordered the Sportsman 1502. Bring on the eggs girls!!!

I have a small farm in sonoma county and will be uploading pictures of what we have going on chicken wise soon!

I was pawing through the thread but did not see, does anyone have any isbar hatching eggs for sale around here? Thanks so much!

yes, as @tommysgirl said, i do have isbars -- right now just one breeding trio, but i could certainly provide some eggs if needed -- just let me know. i'm in sonoma county.

and hi everyone! apologies for being away from this site so much, work has just gotten insane this year... but the chickens are doing fine, and i have an incubator full of eggs that should be hatching next week...

Dag-nab-it, my broody quit her nest today. She also ate another egg. I don't think the remaining 5 will hatch even in the incubator but ill try anyway.

And then, the sheriffs came by to let us know that the state wants to put a 3-time felony convicted rapist in a house on our street when he's released from prison soon.
Um, NO! Our whole neighborhood is planning to show up at a local meeting next Thurs.
What's particularly egregious to me is that the state will pay the homeowner $3,500 a month for him to live there (2878 sq ftt, 4-bd, 3-ba) for ONE GUY.
Ah, so that's why the state's going broke.

Awww....how adorable!  So how many Pita Pinta did you hatch?

Debi there were 5 at that point (hatched Wed), but when i went to work I had one more PP out with one pipping. Still nothing on the BCMs for Karen :( That breed is my bane...

Blaine is doing his job Mom!! Yay blues :) This hatch was in the Hovabator, but the next one will be in Karens Ova 190!! She's enabling me terribly :)

The feed store has Welsummers and they say their eggs are red. What color are their eggs really. Look like they lay a mottled egg to me.
