California - Northern

They like to fly and roost in trees if given a chance. The are similar to penedesencas in temperament.

I like them but the egg farmer is having trouble with keeping them confined to his netting. He needs someone to work with him--clipping feathers on a wing would help.

Penedesencas: not my favorite. My remaining one screams at the top of her lungs like I'm killing her if I have to pick her up. The whole time I'm holding her! Brings the rooster running thinking I'm skinning her alive, no doubt. So if U of A birds are like that....not for me!

Crested Cream Legbars: curious, friendly birds, fairly docile, come when called,

gorgeous egg. Calm! See my preference??
Just ran it by my daughters and they said "please dont get a rooster for the u of a, she screams like she is dying every health check" lol

Just read through the "blue egg layers from university of Arkansas and realized it's locked. It was clear there is a belief of two different lines?....

Anyhow I have a pen open for a new project and I'm thinking blue. I have a u of a and a ccl hen and they are both sweet. @ronnot I did see your post a bit... or anyone else breeding either of these... are their any cons to either of these breeds?

I have some of Candy/ Chickee's Ameraucana hens, who lay crisp, bluest of the blue eggs, and the debth of the color fades just slightly when the laying season advances.
Contrary to common belief about the Ameraucanas, the birds have very gentle and quiet temperament. Whenever I am outside, they are my little shadows, and when I need to pick them up, very easy to reach down and hold. They are always one of the first group to come inside to roost. Simply, most delightful, elegant, and beautiful birds to have.

What a beautiful bird!

People want my SL chicks...what was I supposed to do?? Also now that their eggs have grown beyond pullet size I am required...by law I think... to hatch a few NH chicks from the trio I got from @lualshannon .
Well, you could always ask a friend with an 'bator to hatch 'em out for you - wink, wink, nudge, nudge :)

My 5-y-o son saw this pic of your bird & says "Mommy! You don't have one that looks like that. You need one."
Sorry Daddy - I have turned him completely to the dark side side. Ha ha ha...

I'm looking forward to getting a few of these beauties for my daughter (and me).

:thumbsup hehehe *insert hand-rubbing emote here*

phew i got my birds today and they are fine

Oh good, I'm to scared to get birds by mail.

Last year I mailed home two Splash Marans pullets from Bev Davis while I was in Florida. Sent them at 11:30 am Tuesday, got on the plane 9am Wednesday, and by the time I was in SFO at 3:00pm (plane change!). they had arrived and my girlfriend picked them up for me at the Healdsburg USPS. I was worried, having never shipped nor received 9 week old chicks, but all went well. Moral of the USPS story: you never know!
