Anyone have experience with Rhode Island Whites In a mixed flock?

If things go well Ill have a Silkie and a Delaware hatch this weekend (Those test fertile eggs I got from Neil)
Im thinking of getting some feed store chicks to round out the pile Buff Orps will do well and It looks like Cuckoo Marans might as well but they also have RIW. The reviews say they can be bossy.
Im interested in the potential for Jumbo Eggs but flock peace reigns.

Can't say I've pulled any from the incubator but I hard-boil the "extra" eggs I pull from under my broodies and feed them back to the chickens and dog; so far they've all looked "normal".

Id just float them first.

I accidentally stepped on a hidden nest and nearly threw up from the smell. I had to avoid that part of the yard for over a week the rotten egg smell was too strong. If I don't know when it was laid I'm not eating it.

Yes, it is a terrible smell!

If you do not know how old the eggs are in the nest, carefully smell them first. If they smell good(not like sulfur) then use the float test. If the egg floats out of the water, get it out of the house! Fresh is when they sink and old is floating.

Added: The person knew that the eggs were under a week old and tossed them without testing them. They would toss any egg that had been outside more than one day.

does anyone near ceres) Modesto Have a wheaten or blue wheaten Ameraucana rooster For SaleA FOX ATE MY BEAUTIFUL BLUE AND THE OTHER one is not doing his job very well.
Please PM me if you have or know where one is. Must be a true wheaten ameraucana perferablly for nice dark blue egg producers..

Eggs must be the most natural and long lasting food in nature.  I candled some eggs I bought from a friend after 8 days in the incubator.  16 of the 18 eggs were clears.  Not wanting to waste them I hard boiled them to use to feed my chickens, and I am amazed that they look like fresh eggs after that long on simmer.  I chopped them up and the chickens really enjoyed them.  The eggs really didn't look any different than fresh eggs, except my mind tells me they shouldn't be any good.  Is this something you all do?   Kern

Yes!

It amazes me when someone finds a hidden nest and tosses the eggs because they may have been outside for a couple of days. Non fertile eggs can be good in the incubator for a couple of weeks sometimes.

Looks like the chickens and the dog will be getting a feast when I replace Frieda's infertile eggs with fertile ones, then

I don't have a mature W/BW Ameraucana rooster but I have a couple of BW cockerels that are going on 5 weeks old. I am not near Modesto though, I am near Auburn.

That could be! There has not been a followup post from the person. Others are saying that feather sexing only works with certain breeds(correct) so feather sexing must not be her thing.
