California - Northern

we got some kids lol this one is Riff Raff =)

I loved having goats. I even milked them for a time when I weaned my son only to find out he was allergic to cows milk. I bought a milking goat & milked her twice a day to feed my son & bought a little crossbred steer to raise on the extra. It was the best looking calf I ever raised, never scoured either. My son eventually outgrew his cow's milk allergy & later grew up to show Nubian goats in 4H. Living in the country has been such an adventure. I love all we have been able to do here.

Plucking chickens is not too bad if you have a plucker! We processed 29 today. We started at around 10 and were finished before 1.

That's great Deb. I would love to try one & at one time researched the ones you build yourself since Raymond & Aaron are so handy. I couldn't justify it for just here. Raymond doesn't even eat chicken much. It takes me 45 minutes a bird to have it ready for the refrigerator.

Hi all. Have recently moved to Oakland, and am looking for people nearby with backyard chickens and extra eggs. Had my own coop in Los Altos for some years(part of the first Silicon Valley Tour de Coop), but am now retired and not always in town. Am more than willing to buy feed, help with care when I'm in town, pay, etc to get access to edible eggs! (I can't stand to even look at the "eggs" they sell in stores anymore)

Our farm friend built this one from a kit. They raise all their own meat and we process chickens with them 4 times/year. We usually process between 30-40 birds at a time. It is a whole family event and the kids all participate. Many hands make light the labor and all that. None of us especially like doing it so we make it a party with goodies and lots of story telling & talking.

I live in Woodland and that is too far from Oakland. I hope you find someone to get eggs from. It would be very hard to go back to store eggs.

I must be twisted...it sounds like fun. Maybe Jules & I can participate some time. I have seen you post about it before. I just told some people yesterday that it seems I am busier than ever & I finally figures out why. I have slowed down so much as I get older that it takes me twice as long to get anything done......LOL Thank God for Aaron. He is my saving Grace when it comes to physical work around here. He is working hard at our experimental garden this year & we are both excited.

@HighStreetCoop might be in your neck of the woods.
