California - Northern

Good luck to you. Keep us informed on how it's going, ok? Have a great weekend. Climbing back up in the 90's here this weekend. I sure wish we had a Fall season here. I hate these temps. And to think this was why I left New England to live in California; but I was a whole lot younger then and loved the hot temps. Now the old body can't handle it as well. And of course we have tons of outside work to get done this weekend too:)
California Seasons:

mom and chicks are well they are about a week old now and americanas have gotten almost all there wing feathering and a little bit of tail, but the marans are still getting wing feathering, babies still haven't made it up the ramp, ugh, i have to keep moving them

Haha Ron that's funny but sad too and in Bakersfield you can cut out the Spring and Fall ones all together bc those seasons don't exist here :)

I like spinosad for mites. I found the spray at Lowe's, Captain Jack's Dead Bug.
Permectrin II also works (permethrin, a manufactured pyrethrin) but more slowly I've found. It's great for flies and lice and fleas, safe to spray directly onto animals as well as coop & run & plants.

Thank you Ron and TheKeeper, I'm going to buy some so I have it on hand, just in case... be prepared!!

Lynn, we're hot here today and tomorrow then down into the 60's again.... I lived in CA my whole life, when I was young I loved the heat BUT I'm no longer young! I hate the heat...lol I dearly love our seasons here....

Lynn, I bought another 3 drawer thingie with deeper drawers.... So today I took other of them outside and I strained all of them and put it all in one deepper drawer with clean bran and oatmeal.... I did not see any pupae so I'm still waiting for that... my chickens love these worms!
I also gave my chickens a taste of peanut butter...lol I had some left over on the spoon from filling the mouse traps, so I scraped it out with my finger and let them peck it..... I laughed SO hard!!! They really are so silly! Rae

so last night, 4 of my chicks went up into the coop with mom, we still had to put the other 4 up but they are learning, and today i saw my 1 1/2 week old chicks dust baiting, so it is cool how mom teaches them how to be a chicken and do chicken things, i love this experience so much.

Great update!

They will be getting around everywhere soon.

Happy to report that 48 hours in the wire pen seems to have done the trick. Let her out last night after work and she didn't go back to the nest, and today she came out in the morning with everyone else. *phew*

I have a question.... Can chickens taste? They love to eat the pebbles of Safe Choice that the horses spill out around their bowls... It's a sweet kind of mix...
