Lordy. I for one am SO ready for this rain to end. I understand that we need it but yikes! All my coops are flooding. I need to spend tomorrow putting in some drainage - gotta love digging in the rain. I didn't have to deal with this the last few years since the big coop was built, but now I've got a 2' wide puddle inside the front door. Sigh.

We are past the saturation point up here. The walking paths in the back of the house are all standing water and DH was dealing with a "Creek" flowing across the driveway while he was bringing in firewood. The rat tunnels are all filled with water, hoping it will force them to move around where the hawks and owls can make a meal of them. The Harris hawk has a new favorite hang out in the maple in the front yard.

I am looking forward to things drying out here. We will be dry for a while now.

Thanks to my elegant tarpage, the girls have about 2-3 feet of dry dirt up by the coop, but there were puddles everywhere else until today. On the plus side, I had to dig some holes for trellis poles, and it was super easy even in my gravel and clay thanks to the days of water. Holes now dug, I just need 2 more poles for them...

She's a year and a half old. And yes, I moved her to a cage.

It is likely not mareks.

How is she today?

She seemed much better when I got home from work. I let her out and no flopping over!

That is great!

She likely sprained something. Keep an eye on her and put her back if she starts limping again.

I'm so relieved. They're such good birds and I so enjoy them. The Orps are my fav, but my grocery store leghorn is the absolute funniest. She's SO active and SO curious about EVERYTHING. Watching that girl run around makes me incredibly sad for all the caged ones. It's impossible to imagine her dealing well with being locked up like that.

I think that about the Trader Joe's and Whole Foods chicks I hatched last year and this year. They are very curious for sure!

Can I give them just plain rolled oats?

My birds get plain rolled oats made into oatmeal as part of a morning mash when it is really cold, and sometimes I will toss out just the uncooked oats instead of scratch. The birds love it, it is a pretty healthy treat or supplement.

I have hatched eggs from Joe's Market in Oakland twice and have more in my incubator now. They are beautiful white chicks and some have a black dot or three. Someone who bought some from me this time or year last year, was in, and said they are really nice birds and lay lot of large eggs. Kern
