Is it possible to get rid of mites for good? I treated all of my coops (sprayed the heck out of them) and my chickens with the Elector PSP and I still got a mite on me after picking up one of my chickens. I am really grossed out by the bug thing. Please advise

Do you have any gaps between the wood in your coop? I know the mites like to hide in the gaps, maybe some of them are hiding & the spray is not getting to them? I have lots of gaps between the boards in my coop so I am going to paint it & try to seal up the gaps. BTW we gave our hens a flea bath last weekend & are going to repeat next weekend. They seem a LOT happier today.

The Elector is so expensive I think we are going to try repeated flea baths and maybe the ivermectin also before we bite the bullet & get the pricy stuff. Fortunately I only have 6 hens so it is not too hard to bathe them all.

elector is concentrated--It does not take much to make a spray solution.

I'm sure it's possible that I missed areas, my coop is kinda hard to get into/maneuver around. The way it's built I'm not sure even paint would be able to get in all the hidden areas. Sigh. A plastic coop is sounding good right now. No wood for mites to hide in.

I've been setting batches of my R.C bantam eggs since late February, and haven't gotten a single chick. I've tried different hatching methods (incubator/broody) but they consistently die around day 17.
I don't know but that's been exactly what's happening with my Bantam Cornish pair! They are gorgeous quality but I'm only getting 50% fertility
in the first place and all of my eggs which did develop died between day 15-17. Ugh!
It's incredibly frustrating. I wish you luck with your pair!

Anyone been to Farmer's Feed in Gilroy recently? If not, next time you're in the area you might want to stop by. Lots of new birds to looks at... OEGB's, Modern Game Bantams, Polish, huge Light Brahmas, and assortment of pheasants, call ducks, Mandarin Ducks, Wood Ducks, a young Black Swan, and more. Decent prices on feed. Lay pellets or crumbles are about $15 per 50 pound bag, scratch is $10 per 50 pound bag. Call first if you want feed to be sure they have what you want in stock.

Is this something that's annual? New to all this but that sounds really interesting.. :)

Quote: There have been some changes there and one of the employees has been aquiring birds from various poultry shows and is breeding them. So no, it's not annual, it's more of a new direction. I was there one day and saw a beautiful new OEGB pair... I think he said they were "fawn blue reds"?
