Calf manna, will TSC have it? They were pretty skinny, also. Is feather fixer high enough in the protein? Maybe I should get the All Flock, I think it is 18% protein. Okay, we are going to town Thursday. They are also in a much larger area. Thank you, Rae
Yes, tsc has calf manna.

Feather fixer has ok protein for layers--it also has good nutrition in it other than protein. The calf manna will boost protein.

For vent fleet you should also wash well, and apply the same stuff used for yeast infections liberally. Can take a while to get rid of so be consistent about applying the cream every day. If you have a rooster you may want to isolate the hen as vent fleet is contagious and an amorous boy can pass it on to other hens if he has contact with the infected hen. Yup, chicken VD!
I'll get right on that. I've got her isolated, and I think I caught it early, so hopefully she'll have a quick recovery. Thanks!

It's kinda weird, they are really good layers. Mine are pretty good layers and they really look healthy.

If they are laying egg, then definitely keep them on the feather fixer with added calf manna.

Really good layers(commercial) will keep laying eggs to the detriment of things like calcium in the bones.

They will be a lot better in a couple of weeks.

How do I go about treating vent gleet? Looks like I have a hen with it.

There are several posts on BYC under the search "Vent Gleet." I searched it on Google also and discovered vent gleet was not what my chicken had. Silkies and other fluffy chickens for that matter can get very dirty vent feathers from poop, mud sticking, etc. After we carefully washed one of our chicken's vent area we found it was not the symptoms of vent gleet. There are specific remedies for vent gleet but I would not use ACV water - it is not proven to have probiotic benefits whatsoever - GL:

I just got the recommendation for ACV in the water from the article here on byc. I was told by a vet, though, that chickens prefer the taste of water with the ACV in it and will drink more water if it has the ACV in it. So she told me it is good for keeping them hydrated.

I've read reviews by others that said it decreased their chickens' water consumption. Hey, whatever works best for us - it's our choice in the end

. I like more scientific proof though when it comes to using weird stuff for the chickens. So far I'm thinking ACV is a perpetuated wives' tale that eventually got accepted as truth JMHO.

I am so depressed.
I feel like I never want to buy shipped eggs again.
I got 8 paint showgirl eggs - ONE has made it to lockdown, all the others are clear.
I got 16 silver-laced oprington eggs - i candled tonight at 10 days - ONE has a viable jumpy embryo. 2 are maybes.
I did everything recommended for shipped eggs: reating for 24 hours, not turning for the first couple days. I'm using my best incubators, a Brinsea, ones I KNOW are good with 3 humidity/thermometers.
I am not sure what to do from here.
The eggs all looked good on delivery, no cracks, no saddle air cells (a little wobbly). They were both packed very well.

Crap.
