Lost another of my original flock yesterday. Im sure its due to them being hatchery stock birds and getting old. My daughter was reading about how heat may not kill them the day of but a bit after it breaks. They have been really slowing down the laying but that is kind of to be expected. I have birds starting early molts (kind of hard to tell with my Jr birds molting too) I was expecting to get something to hatch in Sept but its looking like the laying season might be coming to an end shortly. Good to have up and coming layers starting soon.

They will pick up again. Stress like heat can make them slow down or stop for a while but around here it is the light level that drops in mid october.

Hey all. I'm needing to find a home for 2 of our dogs. They are just to much for us right now. We have such a busy schedule we have no time for training even though they are both so smart. They are potty trained to a dog door but have discovered how to jump our fence. Both need a very secure yard which we don't have. We were quoted 5000 dollars to replace our fence. Sophie is a purebred 2 year old doberman pincher with one ear clipped and the other droopy. She gets along with all children even letting our 4 year old crawl all over her. She is very treat oriented and would be easy to train if she had someone who had more time for her. She needs way more exercise and is not allowed out of our house right now due to our fencing problem unless she is leashed. Our second dog is a husky mix. About one and a half years old. She is very mellow in the house but more difficult to train. Really the only problem with either that we are having right now is they both have accidents in the house which never happened when they could use the dog door. I feel so bad for them but don't know how to find them good homes and I don't want to list on Craigslist or take to the pound. Both are good with kids of all ages. They are not so good with cats. They seen to get along well with other dogs since we also have a lab and a chihuahua. Both are girls. If anyone is interested or has more questions pm me please. Thanks.

I did contact the doberman rescue but thew were over full. She would still have her but not sure how long before they could find a home. I love my dogs. I want to try and find them homes. I wish I didn't have to. It makes me incredibly sad. I couldn't release then to anything less then a good home...

I think I have decided I will have a small mixed flock of australorp, easter egger, and welsummer chickens. Does anyone know if all three of these breeds are sold in the Sacramento area in the spring? I know that the australorps and easter eggers typically are, but not sure of the welsummers. Otherwise, I was looking at Meyer hatchery. Thank you.

If you aren't breeding for show or selling hatching eggs/chicks, then you can pre-order the breed of your choice for Spring 2017 through your local feed store and they can order hatchery chicks for you. My feed store guarantees me refunds if the sexed pullets turn out roos. I asked for one Dominique pullet - the feed store owner had to order a minimum of 5 Dominique from the hatchery to add to his total order of 100 assorted chicks but he had no problem selling the leftover Dom chicks. It's hard to find a major hatchery that sells less than 15 chicks in an order so I find going through my local feed store to get just one or two chicks of one breed the best way for me - especially with a guaranteed refund for a mistaken roo. GL!

Im sure you can get the Welsummers I know 2 places that get hatchery quality regularly here in Antioch/Concord.

Be careful if you are using Craig list. There are a lot of bad people that try to get dogs for bad reasons.
