Not really sure about pullets. Depends on what you are looking for there are quite a few breeders around but its usually late for last years pullets and too early for this years. What are you looking for?

Craigslist is usually a good place to find juvenile or adult birds. Just be sure they are healthy before you bring them home.

2x, also it's a good idea to be able to tell a cockeral from a pullet, every once in a while a disreputable craigslist seller will sell them as pullets...

I'm starting to get excited about this years batch of chicks, for the frist time I've ordered online (MPC) and have 2 Blue Americanas (sp?) and 2 Black Copper marans coming, they won't hatch until May 22nd, I wanted to be off school for the semester so I can spend all my time enjoying them once they arrive :) (I even requested a few days off work for a chick-cation :) )

Hopefully the make the journey well, I'd have loved to order some Silkies too, but it seems extra hard on the bantams to travel all the way to CA, plus they'd need a coop of their own (our tough SL Wyandotte 'Tammy' would eat them alive!).

In Herald, CA, there is @RFR of CA who has a few different breeds, is NPIP, and seems kinda close driving distance to you. RFR can also ship hatching eggs, juveniles, and adults or arrange pickup. RFR is on BYC if you want to PM them or they also have a Facebook Page. I live in SoCA and have ordered birds shipped to me a couple times from RFR. I ordered the rare Breda from RFR and those hens are dynamo layers. Our Cuckoo Breda pullet has layed 11 LG-XL eggs in 13 days, is a docile temperament, family-friendly, lightweight chicken breed. RFR has other breeds too but, of course, I'm partial to the dynamo Breda layers who are also very people-friendly and are non-aggressive flockmates. Breda have NO comb but a small triangle crest, cavernous nostrils, vulture hocks, feathered legs/toes.

Cuckoo Breda eggs (below) are tinted pink while Blue/Black/Splash Breda lay snowy white eggs. There are also beautiful Mottled Breda.

I'm sure there are many other breeders in your area but from my research of your map area, and because of our good experience with RFR of CA, I thought I'd refer you to them. If you want chickens that are unique, terrific layers, and easily tamed as family pets, do consider the rare Breda as a change of pace from the Rhode Island Red and Barred Rock -- which I've had both and Breda rivals their production, yet are a much lighterweight bird easy on the feed bill. I understand Pita Pinta are another more docile breed and not bad at production either. I like the Breda no-comb so I don't have to worry about frostbite on combs.

:idunno Contemplating selling a clutch of Swedish Flower Hen straight run chicks after (if) they hatch but only to NorCal or S. Oregon (I won't ship them, but don't mind driving a bit ). Could be as many as 16, as few as 4, from two reputable breeders (not hatchery stock). Any interest, send me a pm.

To me the edge of Northern California starts as you climb north on 101 from Ukiah. The road narrows, hills turn into mountains and the trees take over. We live in Crescent City which is 30 minutes from the Oregon Coast; north of the mighty Klamath River and south of the wild SmithRiver

Look up Northern California on Wikipedia--a map line shows their version of the division and Central California has been lumped into the Northern California division. I feel that Central California should be its own section but then we all have our opinions.
