I picked up a couple of Swedish flower chickens on my trip home from Seattle.

Wow nice job. You have done a lot in a short time. I am in stockton and have an assortment of layers. I have some polish top hat chicksright now.

Thanks. I've been working pretty fast because the clock is ticking since I got my chicks already. I'm estimating that I will have it completely done and painted by the weekend of the 18th.

Wildlife visits burn sites and nibbles on burnt wood. I read an article that charcoal improves the chicken eggs. Makes them stronger. Charcoal is used as an antitoxin so chickens eat it if they have eaten a noxious weed. Its suppose to stop diarrhea as well. The article suggested making charcoal by burning wood (fallen branches) in a low oxygen environment. Ie: burn it in a metal pale inside a metal barrel. Just curious if anyone has fed it and noticed any difference. My horse has picked at burnt logs around here. Activated charcoal is used in wound care and other medical situations in humans. Its used as a filter for toxins, odor, gas, heals infected wounds and so on.

I plan to create a BYC coop page when I'm completely done building my coop.

But until then I have been keep a blog that has a timeline of my progress. It's far along enough now to share. I thought some of you might like to see how it's going. I know I enjoy seeing other peoples progress.

Here is a link to my blog post:

Nice blog site! That was good to add height to the coop. You'll be thanking yourself for the extra comfort. Are there ventilation vents going under the roofline?

I will be adding more ventilation near the roof line and I'm considering adding some type of rooftop ventilation.

Central CA gets pretty hot -- I have relatives there. Any steps you take to make your birds comfortable will be worth it. During our brutal summer heatwaves we take out the solid slide out tray in our Barn Coop and slide in the heavy-duty wire tray because our pre-fab coop didn't come with enough vented ventilation for our taste.
